Landslides rampant in southern Vietnam
Many landslides have been reported in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam, causing heavy losses for local residents, although the region has just entered the rainy season for this year. A serious landslide happened in Song Phung Commune, Long Phu District, Soc Trang Province, said Pham Tan Dao, head of the provincial Irrigation Department. The incident occurred at 9:30 pm on Thursday last week when a 70-meter section of the bank of the Rach Mop River was encroached on by some 23 meters. As a result, a riverside road as well as water and power supply systems were damaged, affecting locals’ travel and production activities. Dao said the rainy season has just come and many cracks have been seen in the area, while the water flow in the river is strong, posing a high risk of more landslides. An Giang Province in southern Vietnam has experienced 22 landslides along small canals since early this year. India investigates rail disaster as trains crawl through crash site
The disaster struck on Friday, when a passenger train hit a stationary freight train, jumped the tracks and hit another passenger train passing in the opposite direction near the district of Balasore, in the eastern state of Odisha. Following non-stop efforts to rescue survivors and clear and repair the track, trains resumed running over that section of the line on Sunday night. Trains were passing slowly by the derailed and mangled compartments, while repair work continued at the track side. Some 120 km (75 miles) further north, at Kharagpur in West Bengal state, railway officials and witnesses gathered to submit evidence to a two-day inquiry, led by A.M. Chowdhary, commissioner of railway safety for the south-eastern circle. "Everyone involved at the site have been asked to join the inquiry. The probe will take time and we are looking at all possible angles," Chowdhary told reporters. Apple to sell Vision Pro AR headset for triple Meta’s top-line price
CUPERTINO, California - Apple on Monday unveiled a costly augmented-reality headset called the Vision Pro in its riskiest bet since the introduction of the iPhone more than a decade ago, barging into a market dominated by Meta. At its annual developer conference, Apple also introduced a raft of new products and features, including a 15-inch MacBook Air, a powerful chip called M2 Ultra, improvements to its iOS software and a long-awaited tweak to prevent its autocorrect from annoyingly changing a common expletive to "ducking". The Vision Pro will start at $3,499, more than three times the cost of the priciest headset in Meta's line of mixed and virtual reality devices. The headset will test a market crowded with devices that have yet to gain traction with consumers and put it in direct competition with Facebook-owner Meta after years of clashes between the companies over issues like user privacy and control of developer platforms. Apple emphasized the novelty of the headset's … [Read more...] about Apple to sell Vision Pro AR headset for triple Meta’s top-line price
