Lang Son tightens control following invasion of red-claw crayfish
Local authorities in the northern province of Lang Son have been forced to tighten control over the trading of red-claw crayfish in order to prevent an invasion of the species into the locality. Vietnamese Gov't cracks down on trade and consumption of banned crayfish Red-claw crayfish is not among the list of aquaculture species eligible for trade in Vietnam. Currently, several websites in Lang Son province are offering crayfish for sell, despite the fact that the fish is not among the list of aquaculture species eligible for trade in Vietnam. Crayfish are sold at a price between VND250,000 and VND500,000 per kilo depending on their size. The import of the product from China has recently captured great attention from local residents. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the fish are considered to be an invasive, alien animal in Vietnam, which could do damage to the country’s agricultural industry. Viet Nam is one of countries which has strong commitment in implementing the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), Bejing Platform for Action and Sustainable Development Goals SDGs. Ten years ago, it was the first time Viet Nam prepared and developed its first remarkable National Strategy on Gender Equality (NSGE) that defined the direction and priorities to promote gender equality in the period 2011-2020. During the years of implementation of the NSGE, Viet Nam has been one of the countries in the Asia-Pacific that has made a lot of changes and progress on gender equality in many socio-economic fields. Drug addiction drives youngsters to commit crimes
Drug addicts make shoes at Bau Bang Rehabilitation Centre in the central city of Da Nang (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - Drug addiction among young people has remained high and is the main cause of crimes among them, with half of young addicts having committed crimes, according to the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA). Nguyen Trong Dam, Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, said that the ministry estimated that there are about 222,580 drug addicts nationwide, most of them under 35. Of that, 8 percent started using drugs when they were adolescents. The rate of those using synthetic drugs, such as methamphetamine, ecstasy, ketamine, amphetamine or cannabis was rising annually, by an increase of between six and eight percent a year on average. In big cities such as Dong Nai, Da Nang and Tra Vinh, about 80 percent of drug addicts were reported to use synthetic drugs.
