Fulbright foreign language teaching assistantship program calls for applications
The US Mission Vietnam has announced the 2023 competition for the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistantship (FLTA) Program. According to the organiser, the Fulbright FLTA Program is a nine-month, non-degree program for early career (not more than seven years of teaching experience) English teachers or professionals in related fields to teach their native language at an American college or university. Candidates who are teachers in the fields of American Studies, Journalism and Media, American/English Literature, and teachers of their own language as a foreign language will also be considered on a case-by-case basis. Laos launches writing contest on special relations with Vietnam
Speaking at the launching ceremony, head of the commission Khamphan Pheuyavong, who is also deputy head of the Lao national steering committee for organizing activities in celebration of the Laos-Vietnam Friendship and Solidarity Year, stressed that art works such as stories, poems and chanties are a good tool to review, record and store the tradition of the bilateral relations, and also an effective way for young generations to understand more about the ties. He expressed his belief that the works created during the contest will contribute to nurturing the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam. Vietnam school in hot water for asking students to detail slapping of classmate
A middle school in the north-central province of Quang Binh, where a teacher last month asked classmates of a student to take turns in slapping him a total of 230 times for “swearing” in class, has stirred further public anger by asking those concerned to detail the event in a questionnaire. A sixth grader at Duy Ninh Middle School in Quang Binh was hospitalized in late November after he was repeatedly slapped on the face by his classmates as a punishment from his teacher for allegedly using foul language in the classroom. The math teacher, Nguyen Thi Phuong Thuy, asked the whole class to give the student ten slaps each after he was accused of “swearing” by another classmate.
