VinGroup has announced a research fund worth VND1 trillion ($44 million) for its Institute of Big Data to focus on fields like machine learning and artificial intelligence. To be set up next year, it will be helmed by Professor Vu Ha Van of Yale University in the U.S. for the first three years. Van said the fund would not only help train and educate scientists and students in applied science, but also support universities and scientific institutions in developing science projects for societal benefit. Southeast Asian centre for lifelong learning launches portal
Viet Nam News HCM CITY - The online portal of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation's Regional Centre for Lifelong Learning (SEAMEO CELL) has been launched. The website, www.SEA-LLLportal.org will be a forum for policy makers, researchers, scholars, teachers and other experts to discuss theories and practices related to lifelong learning in the region. It is part of the ongoing project called 'Towards an ASEAN Lifelong Learning Agenda' by the SEAMEO CELL and UNESCO's Institute for Lifelong Learning to provide assistance to SEAMEO member countries in establishing and implementing comprehensive policies about lifelong learning. Vietnam to adopt European standards for English learning
The education ministry has signed a memorandum of understanding with the University of Cambridge to set up European standards for English learning and teaching in Vietnam. Developing director Duncan Rayner of Cambridge ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) said the institute will also support the Ministry of Education and Training by equipping teachers with English teaching methodology as well as ways of assessing students' language skills in accordance with the university's standards. The cooperation is part of the ministry's "Project for Teaching and Learning Foreign Languages in the 2008-2020 period". Approved by the government last year, the project seeks to have all high school graduates able to communicate in English confidently, or get 3.5 to 4.5 out of 9 in an IELTS test.
