Additional two island communes to gain access to national grid
The Southern Power Corporation (EVN SPC) is completing the final work to bring the national grid to Lai Son and Hon Nghe island communes of the southern province of Kien Giang. Lai Son island commune, belonging to Kien Hai district, has an area of over 1,095 hectares, and is home to some 2,000 households who live mainly on fisheries, plantation, breeding and services. At present, 90% of the households use power from diesel generators which causes difficulties in islanders’ production and lives. The project to bring the national grid to the island involves 43.9 kilometers of 110kV electricity line, including 19.4 kilometers on land and 24.5 kilometers crossing the sea; and a transformer station with two transformer machines. The project has also built and upgraded 13.5 kilometers of mid-voltage line and 11 kilometers of low-voltage line, constructed 13 transformer stations with a capacity of 2,080 kVA, and installed meters for nearly 2,000 households on the island. About half of those attempts were successful. The breach did not affect any IRS data outside the "Get Transcript" application, and the agency said it would strengthen its security measures.
