Health authorities in Ho Chi Minh City will launch a trial of treating people with mild to moderate depression without using medication, with the support of the World Health Organization (WHO), the municipal Department of Health has announced. The WHO Office in Vietnam has introduced the model of community-based depression treatment without drugs as part of a program that supports the city’s health authorities to implement the WHO Package of Essential Noncommunicable (WHO PEN) Disease Interventions, Prof. Dr. Tang Chi Thuong, director of the health department, said on Thursday. The Thua Thien Hue provincial Military Command has directed its agencies and units to mobilize forces to help local people overcome the consequences. Thanh Trung and Thuy Dien were two most strongly affected hamlets in Quang Dien district with more than 30 houses unroofed, and many property damaged. Fortunately, no human loss was reported. According to Second-in-Command of the Military Command of Quang Dien district Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Minh Hung, having received the information, the military command immediately sent troops to work with local forces to reroof houses and move families in low-lying areas out of dangerous areas.
