Russia declares World Cup open after glitzy show

MOSCOW, June 14 - Russia declared the soccer World Cup open on Thursday at a glitzy ceremony in Moscow headlined by British pop star Robbie Williams and Russian soprano Aida Garifullina. The 15-minute show produced by Russia's state Channel One broke from World Cup tradition, focusing on musical acts including a performance of Pyotr Tchaikovsky in front of full stands at the capital's main Luzhniki stadium. Iker Casillas and Russian supermodel and philanthropist Natalia Vodianova brought the WorldCup trophy onto the pitch in a Louis Vuitton travel case. Robbie Williams performed hits "Let Me Entertain You" and "Rock DJ" accompanied by dancers and freestylers. He was joined in a duet by Garifullina, a soloist from the Vienna State Opera, who entered the pitch on a firebird, singing Williams' hit song "Angels". Singapore is the world’s freest economy: Heritage Foundation

Singapore 's Marina Bay (Photo: CNN) Singapore (VNA) - Singapore's economy has been ranked the freest in the world this year in the Heritage Foundation 's 2021 Index of Economic Freedom, the second year in a row it topped the list. The city-state scored 89.7 points, with its overall score having increased by 0.3 points from 2020, primarily because of an improvement in points gained for government spending, the think-tank said on March 4. Singapore's score placed it far ahead of both the regional average for 40 countries in the Asia Pacific (60.2) and the world average (61.6). It was followed in the rankings by New Zealand, Australia, Switzerland and Ireland, in that order, with scores ranging from 83.9 (New Zealand) to 81.4 (Ireland). The US ranked 20th with a score of 74.8, and Germany was 29th with a score of 72.5. Thailand took the 42nd spot with a score of 69.7, and China was No. 107 with a score of 58.4. Hong Kong, which had topped the list for 25 of the last 26 years, was left out of this year's Index, as it has come under the direct control of Beijing, the Heritage Foundation said. Miss World Vietnam 2021 starts receiving candidates’ profiles

The regional primary rounds are expected to start in April while the final round will take place in October and November. Miss World Vietnam beauty contest was held for the first time in 2019, aiming at looking for a Vietnamese representative at the Miss World beauty pageant. Women aged 18 to 27 who are at least 1.65m tall and have had no cosmetic surgery are eligible to enter the contest. Participation is limited to unmarried women who have never given birth or parented a child. Beside the top three places of the winner, 1st runner-up, 2nd runner-up, the organization board will also present minor titles of the Beauty with a Purpose, Miss Sea, Miss Fashion, Miss Talent, Miss Communications and Miss Sport. Luong Thuy Linh from the northern province of Cao Bang was announced as the winner of the 2019 Miss World Vietnam pageant. The first and second runners-up went to Nguyen Ha Kieu Loan of Quang Ninh province and Nguyen Tuong San of Hanoi.
