Conquering Fansipan – the “Roof of Indochina”
Lao Cai (VNA) - For those enchanted by the allure of Southeast Asia and the majestic beauty of the Northwest region of Vietnam, conquering Mount Fansipan - the Roof of Indochina , is hailed as the pinnacle of every adventurous expedition. Fansipan - the Roof of Indochina Vietnam may not have a mountain that stands as a national symbol like Mount Fuji in Japan or the Matterhorn in Switzerland. However, if there were to be a mountain that the Vietnamese people can proudly boast about, it would undoubtedly be Mount Fansipan - the highest peak in the Indochinese peninsula among the former French Indochina (comprising Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos). It’s not just by chance that the Vietnamese people have a saying: “Everyone has their own Fansipan to climb”, as a metaphor for their greatest dreams in life. The allure of Fansipan - A familiar stranger Fansipan, also known as Hua Xi Pan in the local language, carries the meaning of ‘the tottering giant rock’. London – a key destination in President Ho Chi Minh’s 30-year journey abroad
According to the historian, as part of his great journey, in May 1914, President Ho Chi Minh, called Nguyen Tat Thanh at that time, came to London - the power center of imperialism, the financial center of capitalism and the capital of a system that stretched to India through Africa. The U.K., at that time, was still the workshop of the world, with enormous fleets and armies. President Ho Chi Minh wanted to learn about secrets of imperialism, and to have a sense of the developed industrial world. There had been risings against imperialists, colonists and capitalism, but these had all failed. President Ho Chi Minh wanted to understand reasons behind those failures and find out different patterns to development for Vietnamese people as a nation. He arrived in London at time of great industrial unrest with a lot of strikes, such as the one in Liverpool and the Irish people’s rising in 1916 to fight for their own independence. According to Callow, this was a crucial period that … [Read more...] about London – a key destination in President Ho Chi Minh’s 30-year journey abroad

Industry insiders anticipate tourism boost as 90-day visa brought to N.A. meeting
Travel companies are anticipating that if the decision is finalized in the ongoing National Assembly’s meeting, which started on May 22, the sector could take advantage of the change right from the travelling season starting in September and achieve the goal of eight million foreign tourists for this year. As of the end of April, Vietnam has welcomed nearly 3.7 million international arrivals, reaching nearly half of the goal it has set for 2023. However, these figures hint that Vietnam's tourism rebound is still underway - the 2023 goal is modest compared to the country's record 18 million international arrivals in 2019. Pham Ha, CEO of travel business Lux Group told Vietnam News: “Open policies like this will be a driving force for tourism. “I believe that with other comprehensive policies, Vietnam can receive eight million foreign visitors within the year 2023.” The visa validity extension has been a long-awaited decision for many travel agencies, as it allows easier, … [Read more...] about Industry insiders anticipate tourism boost as 90-day visa brought to N.A. meeting

Knowing Thailand, Vietnam’s tourism problems are clear
When my wife and I traveled Bangkok and Chiang Mai, there was nothing that outstanding about the famous Thai food and traffic infrastructure. While their transport system is indeed years ahead of Vietnam, I don’t think that’s the reason why tourism in Vietnam pales compared to our regional neighbor. What impressed me the most was the hospitality and friendliness of Thai people. When we crossed the street, cars always made way for us in the politest ways. We spent six days in Thailand, but I barely heard horns honking, even though traffic jams were a frequent occurrence. I love traveling, so I have already been to many places in Vietnam. I have met so many good people. Some were willing to let me trail behind them on my motorbike as I didn't know the way to Ha Giang. There was one time when I traveled to Dien Bien and I stopped by a small restaurant for a bowl of plain rice. The owner did not charge me for the meal as there were no side dishes available. And there was the time I … [Read more...] about Knowing Thailand, Vietnam’s tourism problems are clear
