Vietnam offers numerous investment opportunities for Indian businesses

Delegates attend Vietnam-India trade-investment promotion conference (Photo: VNA) New Delhi (VNA) – The increasing importance of Vietnam in global supply chains is great potential helping to enhance the Vietnam-India relations, particularly between small- and medium-sized enterprises (SME) that are considered the main drivers for economic growth in each country, heard an online conference on February 25. The bilateral trade-investment promotion conference titled “Boosting trade-investment cooperation opportunities between Vietnam ese and Indian SME s” was jointly organised by the Trade Office of the Vietnamese Embassy in India, Uttar Pradesh state government, the Indian Industries Association (IIA) and the Hanoi SME Association. IIA President Pankaj Gupta said that several major enterprises of India such as Adani Group, Mahindra, SRF and Suzlon have shown interest in investing in Vietnam. He suggesting Indian enterprises invest in Vietnam in the fields of energy, mineral exploration, agricultural chemicals, sugar production, tea, coffee, information technology, and automobile components. Vietnam is currently holding a lot of advantages for investors such as favourable investment policies, numerous free trade agreements, rapid economic growth, stable political situation, cheap labour costs, and young labour force, he stated. However, participants pointed to several challenges for foreign investors in Vietnam, including high corporate tax rates of 32-50 percent for companies operating in oil and gas exploration and exploitation and other valuable natural resources, complicated administrative procedures, and dependence on cash transactions. Meanwhile, Vietnamese Ambassador to India Pham Sanh Chau proposed the two countries’ enterprises expand cooperation in supporting industry, automobile and motorbike spare parts, garment and footwear materials and household appliances. Tourist sites nationwide closed to visitors due to Covid

The Hanoitimes - Tourist sites in many cities and provinces have announced their closures to restrict the spread of the pandemic. Tourist sites closed and festivals suspended. Photo: Shutterstock Ho Chi Minh City Ho Chi Minh City closed Thong Nhat Conference Hall (Presidential Palace) from March 17 to April 1 and Suoi Tien and Dam Sen Park until March 31. The city authorities also shut down cinemas, bars, online game shops, karaoke, theaters until the end of this month. Thua Thien-Hue Historical and cultural sites in the province remain closed from March 14. Earlier, they also stopped welcoming international tourists arriving at Chan May port as well as ordered bars, karaoke, and internet shops to close. Quang Binh The province temporarily stopped welcoming visitors at tourist attractions from March 17.  Some businesses in the province also reportedly stop taking tourists to Son Doong Cave, En Cave, Tu Lan Cave, and Ozo Park, the iconic destinations of Quang Binh. Binh Thuan All resorts and accommodation establishments in the province are ordered to stop welcoming international tourists. Other provinces frequently visited by international tourists including Binh Dinh, Ninh Thuan, Kien Giang and Dak Lak also ordered the closure of historical and cultural sites, traditional craft villages, scenic places. Vietnam welcomed 3.23 million international arrivals in the first two months of 2020, up 4.8% over the same period of 2019, the two-month lowest growth in the 2016-2020 period. In February, around1.24 million tourists visited Vietnam, down 37.7% over the previous month and 21.8% over the same period of 2019. Vietnam promotes cooperation with Mekong subregion’s countries

Countries in the Mekong subregion share the responsibility for the use and management of the Mekong River’s water resources in a sustainable manner in a bid to offset impacts on development and the environment, he added. The diplomat affirmed that Vietnam has always been a responsible member in the joint efforts to cope with challenges in environmental issues, climate change, economic development and security in the Mekong subregion. He proposed that countries work together to build regulations and legally binding frameworks in order to effectively manage transboundary rivers.
