Vietnam’s nine-month GDP increases by 4.24%

(Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam’s gross domestic product (GDP) in the first nine months of this year rose by 4.24% from the same period last year, the General Statistics Office (GSO) announced on September 29. In the third quarter, the country's economic growth rate was estimated at 5.33% compared to the same quarter of 2022. The GSO assessed that although the nine-month growth rate is only higher than those in the same period of 2020 and 2021 in the past 12 years, it showed a positive trend of increasing gradually over the quarters: 3.28% in the first quarter, 4.05% in the second quarter and 5.33% in the third quarter. In the January-September period, the agro-forestry-fishery sector expanded by 3.72%, contributing 8.03% to the total added value of the entire economy. Prime Minister holds talks with Brazilian President
The two sides expressed their pleasure at growth in trade, with two-way trade value reaching nearly 6.8 billion USD in 2022 and nearly 3.3 billion USD in the first half of this year, affirming Brazil’s position as Vietnam’s leading and most promising partner in Latin America. The two sides agreed to raise two-way trade to 10 billion USD by 2025 and 15 billion USD by 2030. They also consented to continue promoting the beginning of negotiations over a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the Southern Common Market ( MERCOSUR ), to strengthen business, trade, and investment cooperation between Vietnam and MERCOSUR member countries. A National Council, specifically established by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, chose the film with the highest vote. This work marks the return after a 10-year absence of director Bui Thac Chuyen since Loi nguyen huyet ngai (The Curse of the Blood Wormwood). Film Tro tan ruc ro is adapted from two short stories by novelist Nguyen Ngoc Tu: Tro tan ruc ro (Glorious Ashes) and Cui muc troi ve (Rotten Firewood Returns). Ho Chi Minh City to test no-drug approach for depression treatment
Health authorities in Ho Chi Minh City will launch a trial of treating people with mild to moderate depression without using medication, with the support of the World Health Organization (WHO), the municipal Department of Health has announced. The WHO Office in Vietnam has introduced the model of community-based depression treatment without drugs as part of a program that supports the city’s health authorities to implement the WHO Package of Essential Noncommunicable (WHO PEN) Disease Interventions, Prof. Dr. Tang Chi Thuong, director of the health department, said on Thursday. Accordingly, the health department will pilot this drug-free treatment approach in five health stations within this year, including one in An Thoi Dong Commune of Can Gio District and the four others in Tan Phu Trung Commune of Cu Chi District, Tan Hung Thuan Ward of District 12, Phu Trung Ward of Tan Phu District, and Ward 15 of Tan Binh District. Saigon Opera House to get $13.8M facelift
Lam Ngo Hoang Anh, office chief of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, told a city meeting on Thursday that as a national relic, the deteriorating opera house needs a renovation to preserve it and maintain the municipal icon that attracts foreign visitors as a venue for major cultural events. The most important requirement for the renovation project is to ensure the original architectural integrity of the historic building. The project will take three years to complete.
