Visit of President Sang to China reaffirms foreign policy
The recent visit of President Truong Tan Sang to China on June 19-21 has reaffirmed the Vietnam Party and State foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralism and diversification of relations, said Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh. FM Minh made this statement at a press conference to discuss the visit and added that it also demonstrates the policy of Vietnam to work towards the betterment of mutually beneficial and friendly relationships with regional countries while clearly setting forth the desire of the country to contribute to peace, stability and development in the region. In his opening keynote address at the 12th annual Shangri La Dialogue in Singapore on May 31, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will highlight Vietnam's foreign policy of peace, independence, self-control, diversification and multilateralization of international relations. In his speech, the PM will present Vietnam's national defense and security policy for peace, stability and development cooperation in the region. Rompuy chosen as EU president, Ashton as foreign policy chief
Belgian Prime Minister Herman Van Rompuy Thursday was unanimously elected as the first full-time president of the European Union and Britain's EU Trade Commissioner Catherine Ashton as foreign policy chief of the 27-nation bloc. Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, whose country currently holds the rotating EU presidency, announced the appointment at a press conference held after a working dinner of leaders of the 27 member states. "Today, we decided the people who will lead Europe to the future," said Reinfeldt, with Van Rompuy, Ashton and President of European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso sitting beside him.
