(Photo: AFP/VNA) Bangkok (VNA) - The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) has projected that Thai food exporters are likely to benefit from a global food shortage expected to intensify during the third and fourth quarters this year. According to Kriengkrai Thiennukul , chairman of the FTI, many countries might experience food shortages because such nations as India, Serbia, Kazakhstan, Kosovo and Egypt have restricted their exports, including wheat. A shortage of fertiliser and animal feed amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war resulted in lower crop yields, making stockpiling of food appear to be unavoidable. The FTI believed that the Thai food industry will benefit from this situation as purchase orders increase amid growing worries over the shortages. Thai food factories have prepared raw materials for food processing in order to meet increasing demand in the global food market, the chairman said. The federation said it is … [Read more...] about Thai food exports expected to grow well

This Saigon food stall sells savory sticky rice for just one dollar
Xoi man (savory sticky rice) is a staple of Vietnamese cuisine, universally loved for its inexpensive price and bold flavor. It is available in practically every neighborhood in Saigon from early morning to late at night. Sticky rice has long been a local favorite thanks to how long it keeps eaters full. Each stall has its own way of cooking different types of glutinous rice to get the perfect stickiness. Because of its high calorie content, glutinous rice's starch keeps diners full for longer than other starchy items like vermicelli, bread, and rice noodles. Although there are many xoi man stalls in the city, it is not always easy to find the perfect plate of this storied dish. BAEMIN extends green journey in Vietnam
Jinwoo Song, CEO of BAEMIN Vietnam As online food delivery platforms grow, one of the most pressing concerns is the volume of plastic waste generated throughout its operations and how it is tackled. The effectiveness in which different countries are dealing with the plastic waste produced by online food delivery will be dependent on how well developed their recycling infrastructure is and the speed of online food delivery has grown. “While the recent discussion often revolves around the plastic waste only, I think it’s equally important to review other aspects of environmental challenges posed by the food technology industry that is food waste and the increase of carbon footprint”, shared Jinwoo. The pandemic has prompted the use of single-use, disposable food packaging as consumers believe single-use packaging was safer and more hygienic. Even though they have become more environmentally conscious, it’s unlikely that they will consider keeping leftover food for future meals … [Read more...] about BAEMIN extends green journey in Vietnam
