PANO - Vietnam Folk Letters and Arts Association, on December 27th, organised a ceremony to present awards to 60 folk culture-letters and arts works in 2011. In 2011, the Association received 80 works, including various high quality and specialized ones and 33 works on ethnic groups. Having deeply studied, the Association selected 74 best works for awards consideration. Some remarkable works include "Folk literature observed in folk cultural code" by Associate Professor cum Doctor Nguyen Thi Bich Ha, "Sli of Nung ethnic group" by Ma The Vinh and "Then musical instrument and folk songs" by Hoang Trieu An and "Buffalo offerings of Cham ethnic group in Ninh Thuan" by Hai Lien. A festival featuring the folk cultures of both Vietnam and Japan took place at the Tokyo-based National Theatre of Japan on Feb. 18. Japanese artists entertained the local audience with three special dances, while their counterparts from Vietnam won the applause for a series of folk singing performances such as cheo, quan ho, xam and chau van. Association cares for folk culture (27-05-2005) HA NOI — The Viet Nam Folk Art Association has announced its plans to compile, research, propagate and teach traditional folk art and culture during its new term. Addressing the association's 5th congress, which kicked off yesterday in Ha Noi, general secretary of the association Professor To Ngoc Thanh emphasised the importance of collecting and preserving traditional art, which takes forms including spiritual beliefs, monography, folklore, festivals, traditional work and cuisine. "All the association's members have contributed to research and understood the value of Viet Nam's abundant folk culture," he said. On September 20-21, the Vietnam Folk Arts Association, Cultural Research Institute together with Dongnai provincial Party Department of Propaganda and Training co-organized the practical scientific seminar entitled "Role of Folk Culture in the development process of the Southeast".
