2022 FDI report to focus on green growth, economic structure

The Vietnam Association of Foreign Invested Enterprises (VAFIE) has begun working on the annual 2022 foreign direct investment (FDI) report. VAFIE Chairman Nguyen Mai said the first report in 2021 was highly evaluated, and now VAFIE is compiling the 2022 version, which will focus on green growth and economic structure. This year’s report is set to consist of three chapters: the global and ASEAN situation, foreign investment in Vietnam, and orientations and solutions. The annual report aims to provide an objective and scientific assessment of foreign investment in Vietnam and the country’s overseas investment, in comparison with annual, medium-term, and long-term orientations and targets. This gives an all-round view of the FDI sector’s role and impact on Vietnam’s economy and society. This is one of the contents of a survey conducted by the General Statistics Office, which has just been announced in the Publication of the 2021 Economic Census. Accordingly, by type of enterprise, the non-State enterprise sector concentrated the most enterprises and employees as of December 31, 2020, with 660,100 enterprises, accounting for 96.4 per cent of the total number of enterprises nationwide. The sector attracted 8.6 million employees, accounting for 58.6 per cent of the total number of employees. FDI flows into Malaysia top 188 billion USD in Q2

Kuala Lumpur capital of Malaysia (Illustrative photo: themalaysianreserve) Kuala Lumpur – Malaysia recorded 836.2 billion RM (over 188.1 billion USD) in foreign direct investment (FDI) at the end of the second quarter, up 24.1 billion RM from Q1, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia. The manufacturing sector remained the largest recipient with a value of 360 billion RM or 43.1%, followed by financial activities 189.8 billion RM (22.7%) and wholesale and retail trade 53 billion RM (6.3%). Chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the FDI sources were largely from Asia, which amounted to 431.1 billion RM or 51.6%, mainly from Singapore and Hong Kong (China), followed by Europe and the Americas. Singapore was still the biggest source of FDI, with an accumulated 174.1 billion RM (20.8%), followed by Hong Kong with 91.1 billion RM (10.9%), the United States 90 billion RM (10.8%) and Japan 84.2 billion RM (10.3%). Vietnamese enterprises limited in global supply chain

Pham Tuan Anh, Deputy Director of the Industry Agency at the Ministry of Industry and Trade , said that Vietnam currently had about 5,000 processing and manufacturing enterprises engaged in providing spare parts for the automotive and mechanical industries. In which 70% of enterprises supply domestic manufacturers, 8% supply exporters and 17% are involved in providing both. Only about 30% of supporting industry enterprises have joined the global supply chain and value chain. Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Le Anh Quan made the pledge at a meeting with domestic and Korean businesses held by the municipal Department of Planning and Investment. He noted that Hai Phong has been among the top destinations for foreign direct investment for several recent years.
