Proposed airport sparks ‘land fever’ in Binh Phuoc

Authorities in Hon Quan District in the southern province of Binh Phuoc are warning buyers to be careful about land transactions, saying the proposed airport in the district, which has not been approved, has caused a “price bubble”. A land plot near the main road connecting An Khuong and Tan Loi communes, in Binh Phuoc Province's Hon Quan District, is cleared for development, with purported rumours of an airport in the province in the planning. — VNA/VNS Photo Sy Tuyen In the past few days, hundreds of people have been flocking to An Khuong and Tan Loi communes in Hon Quan District, causing land prices to surge after hearing news about the proposed dual-purpose airport. Beverage stalls have been set up along the roads to serve buyers, mostly from Hanoi, HCM City and Binh Duong Province. A local real estate broker said the “hotspot” area included street-side asphalt plots conducive to trading. A metre wide of land, which used to cost VND100 million (US$4,332), has jumped to VND300-400 million or even VND450 million in the last few days. The price of some plots, located about 1.5km from the proposed airport, has surged to several billion Vietnamese dong for a 450-500sq.m plot, which normally cost only VND150 to VND200 million. A resident in An Khuong Commune who declined to be named said that agricultural land plots, initially priced at only VND300 million per plot, have surged by 2-3 times in price. A 260m wide street-side land plot initially sold for VND10 billion ($433,508), but now the price has jumped to VND28 billion ($1.21 million) after a few days of trading from one person to another, he said. Experts revealed that the price jump was caused by speculators and middlemen taking advantage of news about the proposed airport. Speculators and middlemen have posted ads on social networks and organised “events” to take buyers to visit land plots. They have even sent people to notary offices to make 'fake transactions' in order to …

Struggling giants Hanoi FC hope COVID-19 break gives them a lift

The enforced rest due to the COVID-19 pandemic may have been a boon for the country's two best-supported teams Hanoi FC and Hoang Anh Gia Lai ahead of the mid-March restart. Hanoi FC midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai (centre) and teammates are working hard for the return of the V.League 1 tournament after a three-week rest due to COVID-19. Photo hanoi-fc.com.vn Hanoi are rooted to the bottom of the table with two losses in two matches, a shock for the five-time champions. “We did not have a good start with two defeats. We will have to prepare carefully for every coming match and play well because of the tough format of the tournament,” said coach Chu Dinh Nghiem. “Our target is the top six first, then we could vie for the title in the second period,” he said. After the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday, Nghiem and his players all tested negative for the coronavirus and returned to training. They have also welcomed the return of key defenders Tran Dinh Trong and Do Duy Manh after recovery from injuries. “They both can follow the teams’ training plan. It is a good sign for all of us,” Nghiem told reporters. He also said that midfielder Moses Oloya who could not play in the previous matches due to a leg injury will be back in action. Speaking with media, star midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai is excited to play again soon. “I really hope the pandemic is controlled well for the return of competitions. My club is struggling and under heavy pressure (after losses). We will have to overcome challenges to find ourselves,” he said. “No one is happy with a loss of course, but we can learn about ourselves from it. We will stand up from where we collapsed and fight back strongly. Nothing could force us to give up our initial target of winning the V.League 1 title and it would be more wonderful if we could conquer the AFC Cup too,” he added. Hanoi, which recently extended defender Tran Van Kien's contract to 2023, are now seeking opponents for friendly matches …

First COVID-19 vaccination drive to be launched in 13 pandemic-hit localities

This comes following Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long signing the COVID-19 vaccination plan for the 2021 to 2022 period on March 6. The localities include Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Duong, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Hung Yen, Hoa Binh, Gia Lai, Binh Duong, Dien Bien, and Ha Giang. The objective of the plan is that 95% of all individuals who are at risk and the community have a sufficient number of doses for the inoculation process. Moving forward, the vaccinations will be deployed based on actual vaccine supply progress. In addition to pandemic-hit localities, provinces and cities that have large urban areas, high population densities, industrial zones, and are important traffic hubs, will also be granted priority to be vaccinated. Ahead in April, the country will receive a further 1.3 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine through Covax, a global mechanism for developing, manufacturing, and procuring COVID-19 vaccines and supply for member countries. The nation has reported a total of 885 community transmissions across 13 cities and provinces since the reoccurrence of the outbreak on January 27. …
