Accelerated economic growth is helping the labour market, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) said on October 30. The gross domestic product expanded by 6.1, 6.4 and 6.8 percent in the first, second and third quarters of 2015, respectively, MoLISA said. It was expected to reach 6.9 percent in the last three months and exceed 6.5 percent for the year. The number of employed people is expected to stand at 52.9 million in Q3, up 0.81 percent from the previous quarter, and 53.1 million in Q4, up 0.34 percent quarterly. Between July and September, Vietnam posted a 54.31-million-strong workforce, making up 76.01 percent of all citizens aged 15 years old and above. The figure is estimated at 54.43 million for Q4, or 76.11 percent, while the unemployment rate is expected to drop slightly to 2.38 percent. Vietnam to see faster economic growth next month
Vietnam’s economic growth is expected to touch around 6.7% in 2016, the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MoPI) forecast. The MoPI predicted that the national economy would continue its stable momentum and gain higher growth rate in 2016. State budget collection was estimated at VND 980 trillion. State budget spending would be around VND 1,237 trillion, including VND 257 trillion of investment spending. Budget overspending was projected at 5% of GDP, equivalent to the figure in 2015. The MoPI also forecast that export revenue would touch around US$182 billion, a year-on-year growth of 10%. Meanwhile, import turnover would value US$188 billion, up 9.9% against 2015. The country would run a trade deficit of US$6 billion. The Ministry also set inflation rate of 5% for 2016. Vietnam economic growth to rebound by 2016: Ernst & Young
Vietnam 's economy should be growing at a rate of 7 percent again by 2016, according to a report by global accounting firm Ernst & Young. The UK-based firm, which placed the country fourth on its list of 25 potentially vulnerable fast-growing economies, expects faster economic growth from this year as policy makers are making efforts to reduce the fiscal deficit, continue curbing inflation, and bring down borrowing rates. The report comes after two years of relatively sluggish economic growth hovering around 5 percent. The upturn will be slow this year with rising imports offsetting stronger export performance and public sector inefficiency, according to the report. A strong rebound in foreign direct investment will calm concerns about the stability of the dong, the report predicts. Accordingly, stable exchange rates will allow inflation to continue to subside, ensuring a return to real wage growth in 2014-17.
