Vietnam seeks UK assistance for HCMC financial center

July 1, 2022 by e.vnexpress.net

Vietnam wants to learn from the experience of developed countries, including the U.K., in developing a financial center, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue told the Acting Mayor of the City of London Peter Estlin. He noted that the city of London was one of the biggest financial centers in the world. Hue met Estlin during his June 28-30 official visit to the U.K. Estlin said the U.K. was willing to partner with Vietnam at different levels, including developing a financial market and improving its business credit rating to grow the bond market. He also expressed support for a partnership between U.K. banks and Vietnamese counterparts to help Ho Chi Minh City become a financial center. In a draft plan published last February, HCMC seeks to establish an international financial center by 2030 with three main components: a monetary and banking market; a capital market; and a derivatives market. … [Read more...] about Vietnam seeks UK assistance for HCMC financial center

July 1, 2022 by tuoitrenews.vn

About 76 percent of HIV infections recorded in Ho Chi Minh City in 2021 were among men who have sex with men (MSM), according to statistics from the municipal Department of Health. The number of HIV infections in the southern metropolis has been increasing, the health department stated, adding that there is a change in HIV-related risk behaviors. The number of new cases rose to nearly 4,500 in 2021 from about 2,000 in 2012. In the past, injecting drug users accounted for the majority of HIV cases in the city. However, MSM currently make up the highest ratio. About 76 percent of Ho Chi Minh City’s HIV infections in 2021 were recorded among this group. Despite many achievements in the past 30 years, the city still faces multiple challenges and obstacles on the way to ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic by 2030. Vietnam’s economic growth accelerates on back of exports, manufacturing: Bloomberg

July 1, 2022 by en.vietnamplus.vn

Illustration. (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam’s economic growth accelerated faster than expected in the second quarter of this year, as a recovery in exports and manufacturing helped offset risks from coronavirus outbreaks and rising oil prices, Bloomberg reported. The US-based news agency cited data from the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO) saying the Vietnamese economy expanded 7.72% year-on-year in the April-June period, compared to 5.05% of the previous quarter. That was quicker than the median estimate for a 5.9% gain in a Bloomberg survey, and the highest level since at least the first quarter of 2013, it said. The performance helped lift growth in the first-half to 6.42% from a year ago, beating the GSO’s forecast for a 5.5% pace. The government targets full-year growth at 6%-6.5%. The gains in momentum coincide with Vietnam emerging as one of the alternative destinations for foreign investment amid trade disruptions from China’s lockdowns, … [Read more...] about Vietnam’s economic growth accelerates on back of exports, manufacturing: Bloomberg
