More than 4,000 people participated in a security and anti-terror drill that was organized in various locations in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday morning. The exercise took place at four locations, namely Tan Son Nhat International Airport, Cong Xa Paris (Paris Roundabout), and in front of the Youth Culture House and District 1 administration’s headquarters. The drill was aimed at testing the ability and strategies of relevant units when responding to emergency situations. A total of four hypothetical situations were prepared for the drill. Firefighters put out a burning motorcycle. In the first scenario, opposing forces took advantage of the Internet to establish online groups and upload false information that distorted and defamed the state, while inciting many people to cause social disorder. In the second situation, officers had to promptly deal with a group of people who disturbed security and order at Tan Son Nhat. Inside are personal items - wallets, documents, electronics, all bagged and labeled as evidence - that police hope might one day help to give a name and a proper resting place to those buried nearby in graves marked only by numbers. “There are still more relatives of the victims, both near and far, that have hopes of finding their lost loved ones,” said Colonel Khemmarin Hassini, deputy police commander in Takua Pa district, one of the areas hardest hit by the tsunami. Triggered by a massive 9.1-magnitude earthquake, the tsunami killed more than 230,000 people as waves as high as 17.4 meters (57 feet) crashed onto the shores of more than a dozen countries, wiping some communities off the map in seconds. Multiple ministries responsible for ‘illegal’ state telco acquisition of pay TV firm: watchdog

The ministry reported to the Prime Minister and relevant agencies that 30 percent of funding for MobiFone’s acquisition of AVG was expected to come from the telco’s own equity, and the rest from loans. However, funding for the project was not clearly identified when the ministry approved the acquisition. In fact, 100 percent of funding for the acquisition came from … [Read more...] about Multiple ministries responsible for ‘illegal’ state telco acquisition of pay TV firm: watchdog
