HCM City (VNA) – Ho Chi Minh City is taking drastic measures to promote disbursement of public funds, which plays an important role in economic development amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the municipal People’s Committee, nearly 32 trillion VND (1.38 billion USD) was disbursed as of December 31, 2020, some 27.3 trillion VND of which came from the city’s budget (accounting for 74.1 percent of the assigned plan) and the remainder from the state budget (equivalent to 57.2 percent of the plan). Director of the municipal Department of Planning and Investment Le Thi Huynh Mai said the results did not live up to expectations of the Government and the city leaders, pointing out tardy disbursement of the Official Development Assistance (ODA) capital affected the city’s outcomes. HCMC’s total retail sales of goods rise 11.9 percent in 2020
Mr. Nguyen Phuong Dong, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of HCMC, said that the industry and trade had made great efforts to overcome difficulties, sticking to the dual goal of both preventing the Covid-19 pandemic and developing the economy in 2020. The retail industry, with the support of e-commerce, had become the fulcrum for the whole service sector, which is most heavily affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. The wholesale and retail trade sector accounted for 25.2 percent of the service sector, equivalent to 15.7 percent of the city's gross regional domestic product (GRDP). It was the industry that attracted the most foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2020, with 418 projects worth US$233.2 million of newly-registered capital. Host of activities for disadvantaged kids in HCM City during Mid-Autumn Festival
HCM City (VNA) - The Ho Chi Minh City Communist Youth Union will present more than 2,000 gifts worth over 500 million VND (21,600 USD) to disadvantaged local children on the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival. It’s one of various activities to be rolled out by the city’s youth union in support of underprivileged children, especially children of local workers, until October 4.
