Eight Danish professors have been awarded the Ho Chi Minh City Badge, along with the Vietnam National Univeristy’s honorary awards given by the Ho Chi Minh City University of Science (HCMUS), for their contribution to the development of postgraduate training and research activities. The awards ceromony took place on February 1, hosted by the Vietnam National University’s member school HCMUS. The eight professors receiving the awards were Erik Thulstrup, Fritz Duus, Poul Erik Hansen, Jens Spanget Larsen, Ole Vang, Torben Lund, John Mortensen, and Soren Hvidt from Roskilde University, a public university in Eastern Denmark. The professors have played a pivotal role in the development of postgraduate training and the improvement of academic research in Vietnam. Vietnamese-French pianist and zither artist Tri Nguyen will perform a recital in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday, treating local audience to two of his albums. Vietnamese-French pianist and zither artist Tri Nguyen will perform a recital in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday, treating local audience to two of his albums. At the February 13 show at the French Culture Exchange Institute (IDECAF), Nguyen will play new pieces in his third album Beyond Borders and those in his first album Consonnances, according to the Vietnam News Agency. Starting to studying music at young age, Nguyen moved to France to study at the Ecole Normale de Musicque de Paris, a leading conservatoire located in Paris, after graduating from the Saigon National Music and Drama School, now Ho Chi Minh City Music Conservatory. Grade 11 students at European International School Ho Chi Minh City rebuild sanitation facilities at Ta Lai village school When Grade 11 students at the European International School Ho Chi Minh City learned that primary students in the ethnic minority village of Ta Lai had no functioning toilet at school, they decided to do something about it. Every Grade 11 student is required to complete a group CAS (creativity, activity, service) project as part of their International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Ho Chi Minh City to host international street music festival
Dozens of international and local singers and musicians will perform later this week at the annual Bourbon Street Jazz Festival featuring music, dance and food in Ho Chi Minh City. The featured performer will be Nina Van Horn, a blues/rock singer from Texas, and her international blues band. The performance, featuring a mixture of European jazz and blues, will last for two and a half hours. Horn was born in France and later moved to the US. She started as a dancer and has been on stage since she was 14. She has performed with the Lyric Company of France, and was a coloratura soprano for some years before deciding to become a country and blues singer. She was selected twice to represent France at the Festiblues of Montreal. Her latest album Seven Daily Sins in 2013 as the best blues CD in France and Germany. Horn and her band have toured worldwide, including India, Argentina, Malaysia, Europe, and Thailand.
