The Hanoitimes - The General Statistics Office said on May 26 that the number of international visitors to Vietnam in May was estimated at 757,244 arrivals, up 30.2% compared to the same period last year. In January-May, foreign arrivals to Vietnam have reached over 4 million so far this year, up 20% compared to the same period of 2015 with an increase being witnessed in most tourist markets, according to the General Statistics Office. In May alone, the country received 757,244 international visitors, decreasing by 4.1% over the previous month but rising by 30.2% compared to the same period last year, the General Statistics Office said. Politicians, religious representatives join anti-terrorism rally in Germany
(VOVworld) – German President Joachim Gauck, government and religious representatives, and the French Ambassador to Germany joined a rally at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin on Tuesday to condemn the Paris terror attacks and take a stand against rising Islamophobia. The meeting was held in response to a call by the Central Council of Muslims in Germany (ZMD), which represents 28 different Muslim organizations, and the Turkish Community of Berlin (TGB). Addressing about 10,000 citizens in the Paris Square, President Gauck called on all people in Germany, regardless of religions or place of origin, to jointly build an open, democratic, and multi-ethnic society. Professor of linguistics Hoang Thi Chau As a distinguished lecturer and devoted scientist, Hoang Thi Chau has made valuable contributions to the study of Vietnamese linguistics. She is also the first-ever female professor of linguistics in Vietnam. Hoang Thi Chau’s scientific career was marked with her being sent to study at Lomonosov University in the former Soviet Union by the Vietnamese Government in 1956. Returning to Vietnam in 1963, Chau began working for the Linguistics Division under the Philology Department at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Her research titled “Identifying ethnic groups in Vietnam” (with co author Nguyen Linh), “The link between the origin of ancient times in Southeast Asian and rivers’ names”, “Territorial Waters of Van Lang State in linguistic documents”, caught the attention of many experts immediately after they were published in 1963.
