$4.33 million industrial wastewater plant inaugurated in Binh Duong Province
The first plant applies biological technology with capacity of between 10,000 cubic meters and 18,000 cubic meters per day to treat industrial wastewater into clean water for daily use and production to meet the Ministry of Natural resources and Environment and the Ministry of Health’s requirements. Its capacity is twice higher than wastewater discharged from the Song Than Industrial Park. After operation, the plant will treat wastewater from the Song Than 1 and the Song Than 2 in Di An Town and neighboring areas. Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Environment Administration Hoang Van Thuc said that the government take heed to wastewater treatment in industrial parks because the government are calling for social contribution to wastewater treatment in industrial parks and handicraft villages and residential quarters. Hiếu, who is deputy director of Lục Đông company which specialises in processing rattan for furniture and crafts enterprises nationwide, said he had been cooperating with local ethnic groups in the two districts in building a sustainable chain of rattan that improved income for local people and protected biodiversity from exploitation. Portrait of Vietnam football boss Park Hang-seo sells for $10,500
A hand-painted portrait of South Korean coach Park Hang-seo, who led Vietnam to the top of Southeast Asian football by clinching the trophy at the 2018 AFF Championship earlier this month, was sold for US$10,500 at an auction in Hanoi on Sunday. The oil painting, named Nguoi thay cua toi (My mentor), is a work by Vietnamese artist Tran The Vinh. It depicts Park on a red background with one hand on his heart, apparently singing to the national anthem of Vietnam during a match. Vu Quang Huy, a popular TV host and sports commentator in Vietnam, was invited to be the honorary auctioneer for the special event. The artwork was sold to the highest bidder for $10,500, half of which was immediately donated to a local charity fund at the auction. The winning bidder asks to remain anonymous. SEA Games 31: Vietnamese finswimming team win 10 golds in total
On May 22, the last day of competition, Vietnamese finswimmers set four new SEA Games record and pocketed five gold medals. Veteran Nguyen Thanh Loc finished first in the men's 50m surface, setting a record of 15.60 sec. Indonesian Wahyu Anggoro Tamtomo was second (15.83 sec) and Thai Khet Chamnanwat third (16.12 sec). Pham Thi Kim Thuong overcame all other rivals in the women's 800m surface with her personal best of 7:19.18 min. Indonesian Andhini Muthia Maulida (7:28.67 min) and her compatriot Katherina Eda Rahayu (7:31.72 min) were second and third, respectively. In the relay event, the Vietnamese triumphed the men's 4x100m surface. Their time of 2:25.57 min is a new SEA Games record. Thailand (2:30.74 min) and Indonesia (2:31.06 min) were the two runners-up. SEA Games attendees enjoy native cuisine, Vietnamese staples
At the 31st SEA Games, the men's football teams in Group B - Malaysia, Laos, Thailand, Singapore and Cambodia – stayed at the Nam Cuong hotel in Nam Dinh Province, just two km from the Thien Truong Stadium. The hotel's kitchen had to serve the five teams with special nutritional requirements keeping in mind their religious faiths and preferences. Nguyen Van Chien, the hotel's manager, said that the three main meals for the teams were served as a buffet of 60-70 dishes. For example, the Indonesian team wanted masala fried eggs, which the team leader said suited the nutritional needs of the players. Some of the Indonesian players were Muslims who don’t eat pork, so their meals had to be adjusted accordingly. For the Thai team, the hotel’s chefs served stir-fried noodles with special spices. Before the meal, the Thai team sent a player to the kitchen to provide guidance and instructions. Retail petrol prices keep rising, set new record
Retail prices of petrol in Vietnam rose by nearly VND700 to more than VND30,000/litre on May 23, setting a new record in the domestic petrol market. Vietnam's petrol prices rise to an all-time high over almost 10 years. Illustrative photo by Dantri The latest price adjustments unveiled by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) and the Ministry of Finance saw common petrol RON95-III reach VND30,657 per litre, marking a VND669 increase compared to the previous adjustments 12 days ago. Similarly, petrol E5RON92 also rose VND674 to be capped at VND29,633 per litre. Meanwhile, diesel was traded at VND25,553 per litre, representing a decline of VND1,097. The price of kerosene stood at VND24,450 per litre, down nearly VND763, and mazut was also adjusted down by VND962 to VND20,598 per kg.
