At the 31st SEA Games, the men's football teams in Group B - Malaysia, Laos, Thailand, Singapore and Cambodia – stayed at the Nam Cuong hotel in Nam Dinh Province, just two km from the Thien Truong Stadium. The hotel's kitchen had to serve the five teams with special nutritional requirements keeping in mind their religious faiths and preferences. Nguyen Van Chien, the hotel's manager, said that the three main meals for the teams were served as a buffet of 60-70 dishes. For example, the Indonesian team wanted masala fried eggs, which the team leader said suited the nutritional needs of the players. Some of the Indonesian players were Muslims who don’t eat pork, so their meals had to be adjusted accordingly. For the Thai team, the hotel’s chefs served stir-fried noodles with special spices. Before the meal, the Thai team sent a player to the kitchen to provide guidance and instructions. Traveling duo Dang Duc Tuan and Vo Minh Tan planted more than 500 trees during their 110-day journey through all 63 cities and provinces in Vietnam, hoping their seedlings will help a new culture of environmental awareness take root across the country. When COVID-19 brought the country to a standstill earlier this year, Tuan and Tan, both 29 years old, decided to take a break from their office jobs in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and Phnom Penh, Cambodia, respectively, to make the life-changing trip. Hoping to share their mantra – 'If you love Vietnam, love its environment, too' – the two men launched A Little Vietnam, their personal initiative to spread public awareness of responsible tourism. Vietnamese rice grain struggling to find position in rice export
Inside one of the country's biggest rice warehouses Ms. Tran Le Dung, First Secretary in charge of the Vietnam Trade Office in Malaysia, said that soil in Malaysia is not suitable for rice cultivation; thus, the country's agriculture focuses on oil palm and rubber trees while its rice self-sufficiency can only meet about 60 percent of domestic demand. Therefore, every year Malaysia has to import from 900,000 to 1 million tons of rice to meet domestic demand and its reserve. The country often imports long white rice, which is very popularly grown in Vietnam. However, it is not easy for Vietnamese enterprises to export rice to this market. The Malaysian government has assigned Padiberasnasional Berhad Group (Bernas Berhad) to be the exclusive importer of the long white rice to meet the domestic demand. Historic roundabout ready for restoration in downtown Ho Chi Minh City
Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City have approved a plan to restore a roundabout that was demolished eight years ago in the center of District 1 for the construction of a metro station system . News of its comeback was lauded by longtime citizens who cherish the city’s traditions. ‘The Willow Roundabout,’ named for the willow trees planted around the roundabout’s fountain in the past, sat at the intersection of Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street and Le Loi Street in the heart of the southern city. Memories of old Saigon According to feng shui, a road should not lead to a building’s main entrance, hence the roundabout, which lay in front of the People’s Committee edifice, was thought to prevent bad luck. Those who believe in feng shui also reckon that the trees and water featured in the roundabout could facilitate air circulation and purification.
