Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung signed Decision No. 1427/QD-TTg dated October 2, 2012 approving the National Target Programme for Energy Efficiency and Conservation period 2012-2015. To obtain a target of saving 5 - 8 per cent of national energy consumption during 2012 - 1015, the Prime Minister requested concerned ministries and units to apply compulsory Vietnam Construction Standards on "Energy efficient Construction projects" to all newly built or upgraded buildings. As for transportation, the 2012-2015 programme targets at developing an energy efficient and environment-friendly system to meet the increasing need for transport. IFC funds energy-efficiency loans for small businesses
HA NOI — An agreement to set up a US$50 million energy efficiency lending facility for small- and medium-sized enterprises in Viet Nam was signed yesterday by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Techcombank. Nuclear energy exhibition The 4th International Exhibition on Nuclear Energy will be held in Ha Noi this Thursday through Saturday, May 27-29, by the ministries of Science and Technology, and of Industry and Trade. The exhibition will focus on gathering information and optimal technological and project management for the 4,000MW Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Project, planned to commence construction in 2014 for a 2020 completion date. Under a forecast by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, demand for electricity nationwide will reach 562 billion kWh by 2030, but supplies will only be able to meet 293 billion kWh, spurring the National Assembly to approve the nuclear project. Factories need to increase energy efficiency
A seminar on June 20, which was part of an international exhibition on energy efficiency and conservation, helped to educate 200 local and international participants on cutting down energy usage in manufacturing. Experts at the symposium stressed the significant role of energy saving, especially energy conservation at factories, to ensure sustainable economic development. According to a survey of five key industries in Hanoi , factories in the capital consume a huge amount of energy unnecessarily due to the continued use of out-of-date equipment and technologies, which contributes greatly to production costs and environmental pollution. The industries surveyed dealt with construction materials, machinery and equipment production, textile and garment, chemicals, as well as foodstuff, beverage and tobacco.
