Photo Le Toan Just a week after Vietnam and the US elevated their bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh paid a working trip to the US to attend the 78th session of the UN General Assembly where he underlined Vietnam’s contributions and commitments to the UN’s activities, and met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres. In the US, he also met with US Vice President Kamala Harris, leaders of the US Congress, the national security advisor, and several members of the US cabinet. He also visited the New York Stock Exchange where he knocked the gavel to open a trading session. He underlined the need for both nations to focus on materialising the new cooperation framework into specific strategies, projects, and business cooperation. Vietnam sees Q3 GDP growth capped by weak external demand
Vietnam's gross domestic product growth accelerated in the third quarter from the previous three months, data showed on Friday, but fell short of this year's growth target as dull demand for exports overshadowed support from monetary easing. GDP in the July-September quarter is expected to have grown 5.33% from a year earlier, faster than the 4.05% expansion in the second quarter, the General Statistics Office said in a report on Friday. Capital Economics said the worst for Vietnam's economy was over but growth remained subdued by past standards. With inflation becoming a growing concern, however, it did not expect a further rate cut from the central bank. The third-quarter figure was much slower than growth of 13.71% in the same period of 2022, when its manufacturing-led economy managed a post-pandemic pickup following a 6% quarterly contraction in 2021. Da Nang city wins Seoul Smart City Prize
Deputy Director of the city’s Department of Information and Communications Tran Ngoc Thach said the prize was given to the representative of the municipal People’s Council on September 26. Thach said it is the second regional smart city award that the city has won since it took the Asia-Oceanian Computing Industry Organization (Asocio) Smart City Award in Bangkok, Thailand, in 2019. This year's award recognized the endless efforts made by the city in boosting outstanding initiatives of building a smart city that focused on happiness, smart infrastructure, online public service, economic growth, education, and development research with human concentration. Vietnam looks to attract foreign high technology “eagles”
