European business community confident in Vietnam
Alain Cany, chairman of the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham) made the statement when commenting on the Business Climate Index (BCI) released on January 12. “Things were definitely less positive in the fourth quarter of 2022 than they were earlier in the year. Although the situation is very likely to continue in this direction in 2023, this should not be viewed as a cause for concern. In fact, Vietnam's economic opportunities continue to exceed those of its regional and international peers. This is evident from the fact that so many of EuroCham's members consider Vietnam central to their global investment strategies,” he said. “It is also encouraging to see that foreign direct investment from Europe and around the world remains high and continues to grow, especially in Vietnam's green industries and manufacturing. It is clear that, with this FDI, Vietnam's strong economic fundamentals, and its commitment to sustainability, the country is still among the … [Read more...] about European business community confident in Vietnam

Dinh Bang communal house – A must-see place for tourists
It is about 20km north of the capital city of Hanoi. The construction of Dinh Bang was initiated by a mandarin in the village namely Nguyen Thac Luong. He and his spouse Nguyen Thi Nguyen along with locals in the region donated workdays and money to build the communal house. Dinh Bang is used for worshipping Cao Son Dai Vuong (Mountain Spirit), Thuy Ba Dai Vuong (Water Spirit), and Bach Le Dai Vuong (God of Agriculture), together with the six individuals who rebuilt the village in the 15th century after it was devastated during the Ming occupation (1408-1428). The communal house is located on a high ground and faces the south. It was surrounded by 17 lakes – which were the remains of the Tien Luong (or Tieu Thong) river, a canal which was linked to the Duong River and served as a convenient water way for the Kings of the Ly dynasty (1009-1225) to come to visit the area from Thang Long, the then royal capital. The US Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel J. Kritenbrink delivered remarks at the ceremony and stated, “During this annual observance Americans pause to reflect on the sacrifices of service members who were held captive and returned, but also those who have yet to return home. Remembering them is incumbent on us.” The United States and Vietnam started to work together on accounting for missing personnel in the 1980s, and the cooperation on this humanitarian work laid the foundation for the normalization of bilateral ties in 1995.
