Asia Economic Forum Opened in Phnom Penh
(CPV)- On October 14th, the 4th Asia Economic Forum, with the theme of "Asia in a Globalizing World: Challenges, Priorities, Leadership and Future Directions in the 21st Century", took place in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The forum was organized by the University of Cambodia and sponsored by the International Foundation for Arts and Culture, Japan. The forum was attended by ambassadors and foreign representatives from all Embassies of the member countries of ASEAN, as well as many other Asian countries, including India, China, the Republic of Korea and Japan, in addition to representatives from foreign organizations in Cambodia. The 19th World Economic Forum on East Asia under the theme "Rethinking Asia's Leadership Agenda" opened in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday. The southern economic hub hosts the gathering of global business leaders and regional politicians on Sunday and Monday. Mr. Klaus Schwab, World Economic Forum founder and executive chairman, chaired the opening ceremony. Among foreign leaders who attended the ceremony were Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, Lao Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh, Myanmar Prime Minister U Thein Sein, Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, and Wang Zhizhen, Vice Chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. World leaders announced on September 25 the Group of 20 developed and developing nations would become the top economic forum, spreading influence to emerging powers such as China and India. The dramatic shift was announced by the White House as President Barack Obama hosted his first major summit in Pittsburgh, which was marred by occasional violence as anti-capitalist protesters clashed with police. The announced came as G20 leaders closed in on a deal on September 25 to tighten financial regulations after last year’s meltdown.
