After calling for supporting Japan people affected from the earthquake and tsunami, Thua Thien Hue province Red Cross Society collected more than 538 millons dong till 06 April 2011. Earthquakes and tsunami
The Vietnam Red Cross has so far received VND 2.15 billion from organisations and individuals nationwide in support for victims of the earthquake and tsunamis which hit South and Southeast Asian countries on December 26. After announcing the news, the Foreign Ministry's spokesperson Le Dzung said at a regular press briefing on January 6 that the drive to give aid to victims of the earthquake and tsunamis is continuing. The first stage of the drive is scheduled to be reviewed on January 15. The Vietnamese Government has granted USD 450,000 in aid to disaster-stricken countries. According to Le Dung, the sum of USD 450,000 is a remarkable figure as compared to Vietnam's GDP and while the country is still facing numerous difficulties. The Vietnamese Government and people will continue, together with the international community, to support the earthquake and tsunami-hit countries, pledged Ambassador Le Luong Minh, Head of the Vietnamese permanent representative mission to the United Nations, at the session of the 59th United Nations General Assembly on January 18th.
