Viet Nam to make Apple Watch, MacBook for first time
Apple is in talks to make Apple Watches and MacBooks in Viet Nam. — Illustration Photo Apple is in talks to make Apple Watches and MacBooks in Viet Nam for the first time as the US tech giant looks to diversify production away from China, Nikkei Asia reported. According to the newspaper, Apple suppliers Luxshare Precision Industry and Foxconn have started test production of the Apple Watch in northern Viet Nam with the aim of producing the device outside of China. Regarding the production of the MacBook, Apple has asked suppliers to set up a test production line in Viet Nam. However, progress in moving mass production to the country has been slow, partly due to pandemic-related disruptions. Viet Nam is already Apple's most important production hub outside of China, producing a wide range of flagship products for the American company, including iPad tablets and AirPods earphones. Clam hunting in central Vietnam
Hundreds of divers flock to the Han River and the Gulf of Da Nang in the eponymous city every day in search of a species of hard-shell clam gaining popularity on city restaurant menus. ‘Chip chip,’ a Vietnamese onomatopoeia for the chirping sounds of birds, is what local Vietnamese call these black-and-white hard-shell clams native to the Han River and the Gulf of Da Nang. Featured in a variety of Vietnamese dishes that go particularly well with cold beer, chip chips have earned their place in the stomachs of local residents and food-loving tourists, resulting in a boom in the ‘chip chip’ diving trade. As these clams normally hide themselves under muddy riverbeds, divers must submerge themselves by up to eight meters and use gloved hands in search of their prey. Czech writer wins Vietnamese national information service award
The collection of Czech-Vietnamese and Vietnamese-Czech poems are edited by Sys and writer and translator Do Ngoc Viet Dung (Do.honza), also a writer, co-authored a collection of poems by Czech and Vietnamese poets. The 762-page bilingual book, which includes works of many famous poets namely To Huu, Xuan Dieu, and Jaroslav Seifert, was honored at the 7th National Foreign Press Award. It was published by the Vietnam Writers Association Publishing House. The Vietnamese Embassy in the Czech Embassy held a ceremony on August 17 to present the award to the Czech writer. Addressing the event, Vietnamese Ambassador Thai Xuan Dung appreciated Sys’s contribution to popularising Vietnamese culture and literary works in the Czech Republic, helping promote the relationship between the two countries. Dantri/DTiNews readers have donated around VND600 million (USD25,862) for a poor teacher in the central province of Quang Binh who is struggling with Leukaemia. Many readers responded after reading an article about 26-year-old maths teacher Nguyen Van Hai was published in the newspaper. VND373.85 billion was sent to Hai through the newspaper, while the remainder was directly sent to him. Hai is staying at the National Institute of Hematology & Blood Transfusion for the treatment By late 2021, Hai suddenly fainted and then faced long and high fevers. Many bruises also appeared on his skin. He was then diagnosed with leukaemia. Hai underwent an allogeneic stem cell transplantation at the National Institute of Hematology & Blood Transfusion, with his brother as donor for the surgery. After the surgery, Hai’s condition has considerably improved and he is expected to be discharged from hospital in the fortnight to come.
