(Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – An international workshop held in Hanoi on May 30 stressed the crucial role of female police officers in UN peacekeeping operations as well as the importance of promoting diversity in conflict settlement and post-conflict peace building. The event was organised by the People’s Security Academy and the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) with support from the Canadian Government. It was part of a regional project named “Empowering Women for Sustainable Peace: Preventing Violence and Promoting Social Cohesion in ASEAN” funded by the Canadian and Republic of Korean governments. In Vietnam, woman jailed after threatening to kiss traffic policeman till her death
A court in Thanh Hoa Province, north-central Vietnam sentenced a 44-year-old local woman to a combined 20 months in prison on Tuesday after threatening to kiss a traffic policeman until her death. Nguyen Thi Ngan, a 44-year-old native of Thanh Hoa’s Ba Thuoc District, was found guilty of “resisting officers on duty” by various actions, including threatening to kiss a traffic policeman till her death, and “intentionally causing injuries to other people.” As per the indictment by the People’s Procuracy of Ba Thuoc, when Captain Bui Tuan Quy was filing a violation record on National Highway 217 at around 11:20 am on February 16 during the performance of his duty with a team of six officers, Ngan approached him, requesting a waiver for her daughter-in-law’s violation on failing to wear a crash helmet. Market extends gain on positive sentiment

However, gains were capped by strong net selling activities by foreign investors. The benchmark VN-Index on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE) rose 3.07 points, or 0.29 per cent, to close the day at 1,078.05 points. It climbed more than 11.2 points, the biggest intraday gain in two weeks, on Monday thanks to the investor's improving risk appetite. Tuesday's rally helped push the index closer to the resistance level of 1,080 points, and may further test the zone of 1,085 - 1,090 points, according to ASEAN Securities Company. Participants at the workshop agreed that the Vietnam Border Guard plays an important role in the fight against trafficking in persons (TIP) and the provision of protection and support for trafficking victims.
