Pham Thi Minh Phi, who won the Miss Philanthropy title in the Miss Vietnam Business 2022 contest held in Da Nang, was arrested by Lam Dong police on Wednesday to be investigated for obtaining property by fraud. In October 2022, a man in Da Lat of Lam Dong called Phi, requesting her cooperation to raise capital together and do business. Phi, the general director of the Moc Hoa trade and service company, said she was negotiating to buy two land plots, spanning 1.7 ha in total, at VND22 billion. She said she had found a buyer, who was willing to buy the land plots at VND23.6 billion. This would mean profit of VND1.6 billion. Phi said she did not have the VND3 billion needed as a down payment to buy the land plots, so invited the man to raise the money with her. Authorities in Khanh Hoa and Lam Dong Provinces, located in Vietnam’s south-central and Central Highlands regions, respectively, have sought to develop a 103km-long expressway linking the two localities in the 2025-28 period, said a local official. The administration of Khanh Hoa recently told relevant agencies to work with a consulting unit on a proposal to develop the Nha Trang - Lien Khuong Expressway project, Nguyen Tan Tuan, chairman of the Khanh Hoa People’s Committee, said on Thursday. Vietnam sees sharp hike in petrol prices
The retail prices of fuel products in Vietnam were revised upward starting from 4:00 pm on Thursday, with each liter of the popular RON95 gasoline soaring nearly VND900 (US$0.03), according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Biofuel RON92 now sells for VND24,190 ($0.99) per liter, up around VND720 ($0.02), while the popular RON95 rose by VND870 ($0.33) per liter to VND25,740 ($1.05) from VND24,871 ($1.02). The prices of oil products were also adjusted up. Diesel oil is offered at VND23,590 ($0.97) per liter, up VND540 ($0.02). The price of kerosene is capped at VND23,810 ($0.97) per liter, rising VND630 ($0.02) while that of heavy fuel oil is VND17,840 ($0.73) per kilogram, inching up VND140. During this fuel price adjustment, the ministry decided to tax each liter of most oil and petrol products sold by VND300 to replenish the national fuel price stabilization fund, except for heavy fuel oil. “Big Four” banks lower deposit interest rates to COVID-19 levels
Two more State-run commercial banks - Vietinbank and BIDV - lowered their deposit rates on September 19 to match the lowest level during the COVID-19 pandemic. Both cut their rates by 0.2 or 0.3 percentage point on deposits with a term of three months or longer. The rate for deposits with a 12-month term was also lowered by 0.3 percentage point to 5.5% per annum. For one-month and two-month deposits, the rate remains at 3%.
