An old problem to many cities around the world, public urination leaves a stench at many busy places across Ho Chi Minh City, where public toilets are scarce. Puddles of urine soak the roads in the city’s central District 1 so badly that no one can walk by without feeling nauseous. Informal gig workers like motorbike taxi drivers and street vendors spend a lot of time outside without access to proper sanitation facilities, forcing them to urinate in public. Photo: Luu Duyen / Tuoi Tre The odor of urine is particularly strong in busy areas, such as bus terminals, bus stops, and crowded streets like Nguyen Huu Canh in Binh Thanh District, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai in District 1, and Vo Van Tan in District 3, where it is difficult to find a restroom. Ngo Thi Anh, 52, a beverage street vendor at the 23-9 Park in District 1, said she often witnesses people peeing on the … [Read more...] about Public urination ‘pisses off’ residents in Ho Chi Minh City

Ho Chi Minh City’s commuters who depend on the Rach Chiec Bridge on Hanoi Highway for their morning commute have been spending their mornings baking in the hot sun due to serious congestion along the route. Every morning, a sea of motorbikes and cars inches over the Rach Chiec Bridge in Thu Duc City toward the city center, enveloped in scorching heat and engine fumes. This nightmarish daily commute has led to many motorcyclists riding on sidewalks and in automobile lanes out of desperation to shorten their commutes despite dangers from cars and tractor-trailers. Either way, it will be chilly enough around Da Nang and Hoi An. Probably the hardest thing is to remain relatively sober until midnight. There’s nothing worse than not remembering who you kissed at midnight and what promises you may have made… While I’m generally happy to hang out with friends on NYE, I hate large crowds myself. A cozy bar or restaurant where I can sit for a few hours is … [Read more...] about Look out, 2019!
