The tree planting festival was among the traditional activities during the first days of the Lunar New Year. Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Dinh Tien Dung today [January 28] attended the 2023 New Year tree planting festival at Dinh Cong Thuong, a relic complex in Hoang Mai District. Up to now, the majority of goldsmiths in Hanoi are from Dinh Cong Thuong, one of the three villages that founded Hang Bac (silver) Street (once known for jewelry trading). Dinh Cong Thuong shrine was built in the 17 th century to honor two generals Hoang Cong (son of the 17 th Hung King) and Doan Thuong, while the Dinh Cong Thuong temple worships the three local founders of the jewelry handicraft and remains an attractive tourist destination. This objective is highlighted in the northern city's service sector development project for 2030, with a long-term vision to 2045, including logistics services. The city is also studying to develop a project to establish a free trade zone, considered a breakthrough solution to exploit the best advantages in the logistics sector of Hai Phong. Vietnam posts trade surplus of US$3.6 billion in January
The US remained Vietnam’s largest export market, with a revenue of $7.6 billion, while China was the top supplier of imported products at $8.1 billion. Upon breaking down, the country posted imports of $21.48 billion and exports of $25.08 billion, with the foreign-invested sector making up 74.3% of the total exports. Of the export turnover, industrially processed products accounted for 89%, at $22.32 billion, followed by agro-forestry-fishery products at $1.9 billion (7.6%), and seafood for $600 million, or 2.4%. Man in northern Vietnam arrested for shooting two people dead
A 20-year-old resident of Nam Dinh Province in northern Vietnam was apprehended on Friday for shooting to kill two people in Nam Dinh and Bac Ninh, another northern province, this week over personal conflicts. The Bac Ninh People’s Procuracy informed that it had approved the provincial police’s decision to arrest Le Nguyen Minh Tuan, 20, who is the suspect. Tuan declared that early on Friday morning, he came to Huong Xuan – Sky karaoke and massage parlor in Tu Son City, Bac Ninh Province and met Thiem, 33, the parlor manager, and his wife. Tuan said Thiem often placed pressure on him and gave him a talking-to. According to the Bac Ninh Police, Tuan asked Thiem, “Have you done anything wrong to me?” Tuan later took out a gun and asked, “Do you think this is a real gun?” Thiem smiled and was shot dead. After that, Tuan fled but was detained while he was in a hostel in northern Bac Giang Province.
