Vietnam Airlines ran its inaugural flight on the direct route to Heathrow Airport in London, the UK on March 31. Speaking at the event, Managing Director of Heathrow John Holland-Kaye said Vietnam has become an attractive destination for tourism and business and that the switch from Gatwick airport to Heathrow will secure regular direct flights from the UK to a vital emerging market. Head Representative of Vietnam Airlines in the UK Le Thanh Dung highlighted that Vietnam Airlines’ customers now can benefit from a world-class facility and its premium connection. Bangladesh wants direct flights to Vietnam Le Anh By Le Anh - The Saigon Times Daily HCMC – Bangladesh's Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism Rashed Khan Menon has proposed the governments of Vietnam and Bangladesh to renew the aviation agreement signed more than two decades ago to facilitate a direct air link between the two countries. The minister made the proposal at a meeting between leaders of the Ministry of Transport on Tuesday. He said the implementation of the agreement has been slow since it was inked in 1992. Therefore, Bangladesh suggests the pact be revised to pave the way for the launch of direct flights linking the two countries. Vietnam’s Deputy Transport Minister Nguyen Hong Truong threw support behind the proposal, saying that relevant agencies of the two countries should coordinate to prepare for renewal of the agreement before forwarding it to the governments for consideration and approval so that it could be signed soon. The Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV) has said Vietnam Airlines cannot launch its direct service to the US by the year's end because it has not met requirements to embark on the new route. According to aviation experts, Vietnam Airlines can only meet Extended Twin Engine Operation (ETOP), a requirement for direct flights to the US , by the end of this year. The carrier has delayed the opening of a direct air route to the US several times. CAAV Vice Director Lai Xuan Thanh said the aviation sector is implementing a three-phase project to improve flight safety management to meet international standards. Vietnam Airlines opens more direct flights to Taiwan By Tran Thu - The Saigon Times Daily HCMC – The national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines will open more direct flights from Hanoi to Kaohsiung of Taiwan on June 17. Three flights per week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays will be served for the Hanoi- Kaohsiung route, using Airbus A321. “The opening of new direct Hanoi- Kaohsiung flights will help Vietnam Airlines to improve its services to Taiwan, meeting the demand of traveling between the two sides and enhancing the carrier’s competitiveness in the region,” said Trinh Hong Quang, deputy general director of the Vietnamese carrier.
