Hanoi will host the 16th annual meeting of the Council for Promoting Tourism in Asia (CPTA) between September 5 and 10. Visitors at One-Pillar Pagoda in Hanoi Participants of the event are representatives from CPTA member cities, including Tokyo (Japan), Bangkok (Thailand), Delhi (India), Jakarta (Indonesia), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Metropolitan Manila (the Philippines), Seoul (the Republic of Korea), Taipei (Taiwan – China), and Tomsk (Russia). The meeting is set to review cooperative activities implemented during the past years and design plans to carry out new projects. PANO – The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), in association with the Vietnamese Embassy in India, will take part in the Global Exhibition on Services (GES) 2016 in New Delhi and Bhubaneswar, India, from April 19th to 24th. The exhibition aims to promote the development of the service industry and to offer an exchange opportunity for global enterprises to seek appropriate business cooperation opportunities. Triple revenue aimed for local tourism in 2020 By Dao Loan - The Saigon Times Daily HCMC – The Government has set high targets for the country’s tourism industry in its 2020 vision, aiming for an annual revenue of US$18-19 billion, or thrice the current level, according to a decision just issued by the Prime Minister. As per Decision 2473/QD-TTg, the Government has ratified multiple tourism targets and development programs in the next period, including the number of visitors, hotel development, tourist area development, products, and human resources. While the tourism sector had set a target of achieving an annual growth rate of 11% - 11.5% in the 2001-2020 development strategy, the figure is expected at 11.5% - 12% for the 2011-2020 period. The industry also identifies its policies on tourism products and a clearer brand development for the tourism strategy in the new period.
