Thorough preparations being made to ensure high-quality candidacy for elections

An online training session on the examination and monitoring of the elections of deputies to the 15th-tenure National Assembly and all-level People’s Councils for the 2021-2026 tenure (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) - Committees of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) at all levels are promptly making preparations for the second consultative conferences on the nomination of candidates for the upcoming general elections, following the first ones in February. The elections of deputies to the 15th-tenure National Assembly and all-level People’s Councils for the 2021-2026 tenure are scheduled to take place on May 23, which falls on Sunday. This is an important political event aimed at selecting outstanding and deserving deputies who represent the people’s will, aspirations, and right to mastery in the NA and all-level People’s Councils in the new tenure, which is expected to help build, consolidate, and perfect a law-governed socialist State of the people, by the people, and for the people under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam. First consultative conferences: Democratic, in line with law The first consultative conferences were held in all 63 cities and provinces nationwide from February 3 to 17. They showed true democracy, as seen through the contribution of opinions to the NA Standing Committee and People’s Council Standing Boards’ draft plans on candidacy structure, along with the criteria for deputies at the NA and People’s Councils. The VFF Central Committee said the first conferences agreed that 1,076 candidates will be nominated for seats in the NA, equivalent to 2.15 times the number of deputies planned to be elected. The difference between the numbers of candidates and deputies elected was 2.04 times in the 14th NA election and 2.2 times in the election to the 13th legislature. Seminar discusses Vietnam’s socio-economic development

Photo: hcmct A seminar themed “Vietnam towards a new decade and the future” was held in Hanoi on August 18. The seminar attracted many scientists, managers, domestic and international experts, and international organisations. In his address to the seminar, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung highlighted three breakthroughs and 12 groups of major tasks to build and put into action Vietnam’s development strategy for the 2011-2020 period. The PM said that the strategy aims to improve the efficiency of state management, push through administrative reform, strengthen the Party’s leadership and promote the people’s right to democracy in building up the state apparatus. The PM stressed that participants should openly present opinions and suggestions to help complete the draft strategy. Vietnamese, Cuban deputy foreign ministers hold political consultation

Participants in the event included Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Le Thanh Tung and Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Orlando Nicolas Hernandez. Deputy Minister Son spoke of Vietnam’s situation, including the prominent outcomes of the 13th National Party Congress, measures in response to COVID-19, economic development, and social security ensuring. He affirmed that Vietnam always treasures and wishes to continue deepening the special traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Cuba. For his part, Gonzalez also informed about the situation of his country, countermeasures to address difficulties caused by sanctions and the COVID-19 pandemic, and the updating of the socio-economic model. The two officials reviewed and assessed the areas of cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba, as well as between the two foreign ministries. They also looked into ways to develop bilateral relations in a more intensive and comprehensive manner. They agreed to keep close coordination to organize high-level visits when possible; effectively carry out cooperation mechanisms; increase exchanges between the countries’ ministries, sectors, and businesses; promote trade and investment ties; and work together in such spheres as food security, education, healthcare, science - technology, culture, sports, and tourism. At the consultation, the deputy foreign ministers had in-depth discussion about global and regional issues of shared concern.
