The Vietnamese Ministry of Transport has requested that airlines improve their punctuality after more than 5,600 flights were delayed in June. Vietnamese airlines operated 30,808 flights between May 19 and June 18, a jump of 528.7 percent and 18 percent compared to the same period in 2021 and last month, respectively, according to statistics of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV). During this period, the overall punctuality of the entire industry was 81.8 percent, with only 25,206 flights taking off on time, down 15.9 percentage points and 9.4 percentage percentage points compared to the same period last year and in May, respectively. Outstanding tariff preferences The British Embassy in Vietnam has forecast that Vietnam will save about US$151 million in tariffs from the deal, while the UK stands to save around US$36 million. Although the UKVFTA took effect at a time when the pandemic was ravaging the two countries, bilateral trade still reached US$6.6 billion in the pact’s first year. In fact, 65 percent of all tariffs have already been eliminated from UK-Vietnam trade. In the first six years of the deal, the UK will eliminate 99.2 percent of tariff lines on Vietnam’s imports. This is higher than the terms of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) with 70.3 percent tariff elimination. Some 155 Vietnamese athletes to partake in ASEAN Para Games 2022
The ASEAN Para Games 2022 is a qualifier for athletes to win tickets to Paralympic Paris 2024. Some 155 Vietnamese athletes with disabilities will attend the 11th Southeast Asian Para Games (ASEAN Para Games 2022) in Indonesia next month, according to the General Department of Sports and Physical Training under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The Vietnamese delegation will include one guiding athlete, 18 coaches, two doctors, and 13 support personnel. The rest are Vietnamese parasports athletes who will compete in eight events: track and field, swimming, weightlifting, badminton, table tennis, chess, judo, and archery. On July 23, a departure ceremony will be held to see off the Vietnamese delegation at the National Sports Training Center in Ho Chi Minh City. Folding bikes allowed on Hanoi’s sky train
Folding bikes are compact and light and do not take up too much space. The management board of Hanoi's Cat Linh-Ha Dong metro line, the first in Vietnam, has allowed passengers to take folding bikes on trains, according to Vu Hong Truong, general director of Hanoi Metro Company, operator of the system. The move is aimed at providing commuters with more convenient and easier access to the public transport system because this is the only metro route in Hanoi for now, Truong said, adding that it has yet to be interconnected with other modes of public transportation. “Cat Linh-Ha Dong is the first metro line to be put into operation in Vietnam, thus, improvements still need to be made during the operation of the system.
