Another medical center to be built on Truong Sa archipelago
The current medical center, the only in Truong Sa town now, was born on May 25, 2017 at a total cost of 41 billion VND (1.82 million USD) donated by people nationwide. With 12 medical staff and modern equipment, the center is capable of conducting basic and complex surgeries. At a medical center on Phan Vinh island Over the past year, the center has offered 3,000 health check-ups and 200 inpatient treatments, up nearly 10-fold. It also conducted 396 surgeries regarding birth delivery, cerebrovascular accident and multi-injuries, among others. HCMC to pilot 24 district medical centers offering family medicine services
Dr. Thuong said that 24 medical centers piloting the model are centers in crowded districts where workers reside but just having few infirmaries. These centers will provide healthcare services to laborers as well as help reduce pressure on big hospitals. These centers will provide first aid and emergency treatment, treatment for health insurance card holders; receiving test results transferring from big hospitals, traditional medicine. Additionally, these centers will treat special patients at homes and supply medications as prescriptions and provide basic healthcare services. Moreover, medical workers in these centers will inject vaccine according to the National Expanded Immunization Program, keep track on diseases and locations which are vulnerable for diseases, manage patients living with tuberculosis, HIV, mental diseases and sifting non-communicable patients. Employees walk out of Saigon emergency medical center due to low pay
Staff at a Ho Chi Minh City medical center have been walking out due to low pay, said the center's director on Wednesday. Nguyen Duy Long, director of HCMC’s 115 Emergency Center, said that 23 employees had quit last year, including six doctors and six nurses, accounting for 28 percent of the total number of doctors and 10 percent of the total number of nurses at the center. He said employees with the lowest wages were paid just VND1.6 million per month ($71), while doctors got VND4-6 million per month ($178-267), and even he only received about VND8 million ($357). A livable wage in HCMC should be at least VND6.4 million ($287), said Do Quynh Chi, a representative of a research team on global wages from ISEAL Alliance, a global association for credible sustainability standards, at a conference in Hanoi last year, as cited by Tuoi Tre.
