A ceremony took place in Hanoi on Thursday to mark the 50th establishment anniversary of the Vietnam Office for Seeking Missing Persons (VNOSMP) and the 35th anniversary of the joint operation to search for U.S. soldiers who were reported missing in action (MIA) during the Vietnam War. New task force promotes innovation, financing for plastic waste reduction in Vietnam
The move boosts innovative ideas and solutions to drive positive changes in plastic reduction, reuse and recycling and to unlock new sources of sustainable financing. A new task force was launched by the Vietnam National Plastic Action Partnership (NPAP) launched to promote innovation and catalyze investment in effective solutions for reducing plastic waste and pollution in Vietnam. Vietnam attends 2023 U.N. International Bazaar
The annual event, held by the Spouses of Delegates of Member States, aims to strengthen ties between member countries and raise funds to support the U.N.’s activities and humanitarian projects. This year's bazaar saw nearly 100 booths showcasing handicraft products and traditional cuisines of U.N. member countries. The Vietnamese mission brought ceramic, lacquer, brocade and silk products to the event, along with traditional dishes like spring rolls, banh ran vung (sesame donut), che dau xanh cot dua (sweet green bean soup with coconut milk), and iced milk coffee to the event. According to Dang Hoang Giang, head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to the U.N., joining the event will help promote the good values of the country and people of Vietnam to the international community, especially the diplomatic missions in New York. Industrial property market slumps on economic woes
In the first quarter the industrial property occupancy rate in the south declined by 8 percentage points year-on-year, according to real estate consultancy Cushman & Wakefield. The rates declined by 11 and 9 percentage points for ready-built factories and warehouses, it added. Another consultancy, JLL, said there are signs that the southern industrial property market is going into a short-term low demand period since exports are down. The Vietnam Association of Realtors (VARS) said the market is suffering due to delays in clearing lands for many projects. The lack of accommodation for workers at industrial zones is also a weak spot, it added. With dwindling global economic prospects, foreign investors are keeping away. In the first five months of 2023 foreign direct investment pledge in Vietnam was 7% lower at $10.86 billion. Van Phong 1 up and running sooner than expectated
With the current high demand for electricity during the peak time of summer, the Department of Industry and Trade in Khanh Hoa has required Sumitomo to take the turbine from the 60-70 per cent capacity of its pilot period to 80-100 per cent capacity. As of June 5, the first turbine has been operating at full capacity. The Japanese investor is now preparing for the pilot run of the second turbine. Phan Thi Thu Cuc, deputy director of the Department of Industry and Trade said that at present the 500kV Van Phong - Vinh Tan transmission line is connected, and the province is completing procedures to implement the 500kV Van Phong - Binh Dinh transmission line to increase capacity for Van Phong 1 thermal power plant.
