MoLISA wants to keep region-based minimum wage unchanged

The Hanoitimes - A no-rise in minimum wage would create conditions for enterprises to recover and workers keeping their jobs, stated the labor ministry. The Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) has rejected two proposals from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor for a rise in the region-based minimum wage in 2021. The information was unveiled in a MoLISA’s document seeking opinions from government agencies and business associations. Photo: Thanh Hai In addition to keeping the region-based minimum wage unchanged for this year, the MoLISA said the timing for effective wage rise should not be moved from January 1 to July 1, citing international practices that the period for wage adjustment needs to coincide with the start of a fiscal year (starting from January 1 to December 31 in case of Vietnam) for enterprises to set up their business plan. “This is also the time for workers to negotiate wage policies with their employers, so moving the date to July 1 would be inconvenient for all parties involved,” stated the MoLISA. The National Salary Council previously said it would not consider a rise in the region-based minimum wage in 2021 as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Vietnam's region-based minimum wage. Widow desperate to save her son after losing husband to heart disease

A widow from Tay ethnic group in Thai Nguyen Province is calling for financial support to save her son from heart disease. Hoang Thi Binh calls for help for her son Hoang Thi Binh is a resident in Thanh Long Village, Phuc Luong Commune. Binh was worried after finding out that her son had a fever after she returned home. "He has a fever again. I'll give him medicine for fever then I'll give him herbal medicine. I'm too poor to take him to the hospital," she said. Binh said her husband had heart disease but because of poverty, he never went to large hospitals. Before the family had enough money, he died in 2013. A few days later, their house collapsed so Binh took her two children to live with her parents-in-law. Unfortunately, her eldest son, Hoang Anh Hai, was also diagnosed with heart disease. In April 2018, Binh's son situation suddenly worsened, causing him to faint several times. Her father-in-law had a stroke and half of his body was paralysed. "The doctors said I should bring Hai to hospitals in Hanoi. But after my husband died, I struggle to even put meals on our table. Now my father-in-law is ill too, I can't do anything," she said. Binh bought medicine with her son's health insurance while trying to treat him with herbal medicines. However, he continues to weaken. Binh said she already borrowed VND20m (USD869) from the banks and more from relatives and neighbours. Tong Van Tien, head of Thanh Long Village, said, "Their situation is really difficult. Her husband died when their second child was only one year old. The whole family depends on the small field and Binh's odd jobs. I hope people will help her son and father-in-law get to hospital." Vietnamese footballers proposed to get Covid-19 vaccine

Accordingly, the Vietnamese football players from Viettel, Hanoi and Saigon football clubs are eligible for the two sport events. AFC Champions League will officially kick off next month.
