Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Vuong Dinh Hue said that the city needs to take actions immediately to gain its set targets. Key tasks for the municipal Party Committee in the 2020-25 term are as follows: Program No.1 Reinforcing the Party and city political system, and promoting the administrative reforms. Program No.2 Focusing on economic growth and restructuring, international integration, and competitiveness. Program No.3 Pushing up urban refurbishment and socio-economic growth as well as ensuring urban development and sustaining urban economy. Program No.4 Promoting the implementation of the national program on new -style rural areas and agricultural restructuring for better living standards of people in rural areas. Program No.5 Improving planning, management, the use of natural resource and environment protection, natural disaster respond, and climate resilience. Program No.6 Concentrating on improving cultural development and human resources, and maintaining the style of elegant Hanoians. Program No.7 Boosting the development of science and technology and creativeness. Program No.8 Improving social welfare and living standards of local residents. Photo by Thanh Hà QUẢNG NAM — The central province of Quảng Nam plans to upgrade the inner waterway on the Trường Giang River as a key traffic system in line to boost transport options from Quảng Nam to National Express systems and the Central Highlands region. Chairman of the provincial people’s committee Lê Trí Thanh said construction work would be slated for 2022-27 with an estimated investment of VNĐ2 trillion (US$87 million), of which 70 per cent funded by the World Bank. He said the project will include dredging the 67km river section from Cửa Đại to Cửa Lở estuaries winding through the districts of Duy Xuyên, Thăng Bình, Núi Thành and Tam Kỳ City. Thanh said the two-lane river route was designed for access of 100 dead-weight tonne (DWT) ships while serving as a major flood release. Nguyễn Thanh Tâm, director of the provincial traffic investment and construction management board, said the river traffic project would include dredging of 4 million cubic metres of sludge and mud and building an 11.5km concrete dyke and five bridges. A ferry carries commuters crossing the Trường Giang river to Tam Hải Island in Quảng Nam Province. Minister promises greatest efforts to ensure safety in COVID-19 vaccinations The Ministry of Health will mobilise all resources to carry out COVID-19 vaccinations, the largest-ever vaccination programme, so as to ensure absolute safety for people, Minister Nguyen Thanh Long has said. Long chaired a teleconference which was organised on March 6 and connected with 700 places across Vietnam to launch the vaccination plan and provide related training for medical workers nationwide in the use and storage of the vaccine, as well as the treatment of post-injection complications. He informed the teleconference that the vaccination programme will start on March 8, although the first batch of vaccine arrived in Vietnam on February 24. “As the vaccine is new, we need to carry out thoroughly,” Long said, adding that Vietnam has to obtain an accreditation certificate from the producer and reassess the safety index of the batch of vaccine. Because of the limited number of vaccine, the ministry cannot allocate for all 63 provinces and cities, but for 13 pandemic-hit localities, with priority given to Hai Duong province – Vietnam’s largest outbreak at present, he added. The minister asked localities which have yet to receive the vaccine to prepare and make training programmes as the ministry will allocate vaccines to them when more are transported to Vietnam in March. COVAC and AstraZeneca have agreed to provide 30 million doses each for Vietnam this year, the minister said, adding the ministry asked the producers to hand over the vaccines to Vietnam before September and is negotiating with Pfizer to buy an additional 30 million doses from this producer.
