The Japan-Vietnam Environmental Improvement Joint Stock Company (JVE) has shown their interest in the initial investment in a project to help tackle the pollution in Hanoi’s To Lich River, using Japanese Nano-Bioreactor technology. The company, which carried out the Japanese-funded pilot treatment of water pollution on part of the To Lich River and the West Lake using Japan’s Nano-Bioreactor technology, on Tuesday announced that they had found the solution on how to deal with the pollution of the entire To Lich River. JVE's workers to take samples of water in the To Lich river in Hanoi (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – The Japan Environment and Business Organisation (JEBO) has said it is willing to pay all costs to clean the heavily polluted To Lich River and West Lake in Hanoi following a remark by an environment official saying the firm's sewage treatment technology had failed. The organisation, which was behind a pilot project to clean up the river and lake this summer, said it is prepared to pay in full for the treatment technologies and will rent them to Hanoi authorities once they were proved to be successful. Hanoi would then take charge of the management and operation of the cleansing system, JEBO said. Illustrative image (Source: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam Environment Administration (VEA) held consultation workshop in Hanoi on May 23 to complete a regional project (Vietnam component) on Reducing Pollution and Preserving Environmental Flows in the East Asian Seas through the Implementation of Integrated River Basin Management in ASEAN Countries. The project is implemented in seven ASEAN nations: Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Laos and Vietnam. Tran Thi Le Anh from the VEA said that the nation-level pilot project will be carried out in Vu Gia-Thu Bon river basin in central Quang Nam province and inshore areas of Quang Nam and Da Nang city. Ninth ASEAN Maritime Forum gets underway in Danang
At the event (Photo: VNA) During his opening speech at AMF 9, Vu Ho, Director General of the ASEAN Department under Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, affirmed that co-operation and maritime security will remain a top priority for the ASEAN bloc and its affiliates. At present, over 12 ASEAN agencies are actively involving in maritime co-operation events by ensuring a consistent level of maritime security and safety, carrying out search and rescue work, combating piracy, fighting illegally fishing, protecting the environment, as well as dealing with plastic waste. Hung Yen province to tighten environmental control
Wastewater from some firms has contaminated Hung Yen’s river and canal systems. After 42 investigations conducted in the first seven months of 2018, the provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment has detected many companies discharging wastewater with residual substances exceeding regulatory standards. Although authorities imposed harsh sentences, those companies deliberately committed and repeated violations several times. According to Tran Dang Anh, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment, 26 companies have been found violating regulations on environmental protection. AOCC Vietnam Company and Thuan Phat Packaging Company, for example, were fined more than VND400 million (US$17,200) each for illegal waste disposal. Wastewater samples collected from the sewage discharged by these companies show excessive levels of pollutants including NH4 , Coliform and BOD5.
