Fire engulfed the AH SHIN vessel as it was moving along Vietnam's south-central coast on Sunday. The boat is currently drifting around 25 sea miles (more than 45 kilometers) to the southeast of Vung Tau, a beach town bordering Ho Chi Minh City. The fire started spreading out from the eighth, ninth and tenth floors of the 12-floor, 21,000-ton vessel, which is 200m long and 32m wide. There are 21 crew members on board and all of them are Russian. Aside from 4,530 cars, including those that have been used, the boat carries 1,356 tons of oil. The owner of the ship has asked for help from the Vietnamese authorities. The ship's owner said the crew has used up all carbon dioxin on board to put out the fire by Sunday night. The car driven by a man suddenly turned into the opposite lane in Cua Duong Commune and collided heads-on with three motorbikes, which were badly damaged. A man and his eight-year-old daughter on one motorbike died after being rushed to hospital. Four people on two other motorbikes were injured. The car driver left the scene after the crash. Two more deadly car crashes occurred in Phu Quoc, a popular tourist island, over the past five days. A car hit a motorbike driver and killed him on Saturday night. Domestic interest rates are beginning to cool somewhat, Le Toan As per the World Gold Council (WGC), in Vietnam, consumer demand for gold in Q4/2022 increased 58 per cent on-year to 13.5 tonnes, from 8.5 tonnes in Q4/2021. The rise was supported by a 48 per cent on-year increase in bar and coin demand over the same time frame from 6.1 tonnes to nine tonnes, and an 80 per cent on-year increase in jewellery demand from 2.5 tonnes to 4.5 tonnes. “Vietnam saw the greatest increase in annual gold demand among the ASEAN markets in 2022, with a 37 per cent rise compared to 2021. DIYARBAKIR, Turkey -- A strong earthquake of magnitude 7.9 struck southern Turkey early on Monday and was felt in Cyprus, Lebanon and Syria, collapsing buildings and sending residents into the snowy streets, witnesses and broadcasters said. The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) said the quake struck at a depth of 10 km (6 miles) near the southern Turkish city of Kahramanmaras, while the EMSC monitoring service said the chance of a tsunami risk was being evaluated.
