Vietnam returns 2 US soldiers’ remains
The Vietnamese Office for Seeking Missing Persons held a handover ceremony in Da Nang City attended by officials from the U.S. embassy and the U.S. office for searching for soldiers missing in action in Hanoi, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement. The remains were found following a joint search by the two sides over the last five months. They were examined by Vietnamese and American forensic experts, who concluded they might belong to American soldiers from the Vietnam War (1955 – 1975). The remains will be sent to Hawaii, the U.S., for further examination. The hybrid event saw the presence of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, head of the Central Steering Committee for Corruption and Negative Phenomena Prevention and Control; President Nguyen Xuan Phuc; Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh; along with key officials of central agencies and the 63 localities.
