Bamboo Airways fleet expansion plan runs into overreach concerns
The private airline had in March proposed to increase its fleet from maximum 10 to over 30 in order to meet rising travel demand in the country. But the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has said that permission for this proposal should be considered carefully, based on market demand, Bamboo Airways’ capability to operate that many aircraft, as also the CAAV’s own ability to manage them. As Bamboo Airways has announced plans to expand its fleet, the CAAV has asked the airline to explain where it gets the budget for purchasing them, and its plans to employ enough personnel for the expansion. The CAAV also said that with its current resources, it can only manage 256 aircraft belonging to Vietnamese carriers. If Bamboo Airways begins operating 40 aircraft this year, the CAAV will have to manage a total of 277 aircraft, exceeding its capability by 21 units. Bamboo Airways expects profits to take off in 2020
The carrier’s deputy chairman Dang Tat Thang said at a press conference Tuesday that it was operating 20 aircraft with over 100 trips a day, but an airline typically needs to operate at least 25-30 jets. "We hope that by having 30 aircraft in the first quarter next year we will record profits. By expanding our fleet to 30, we can stabilize operations and launch more routes." The airline had recorded cumulative losses of VND329 billion ($14.2 million) at the end of April, three months after its first flight, according to the Ministry of Finance. Bamboo Airways chairman Trinh Van Quyet explained the losses at a shareholders’ meeting in June, saying the airline had to pay salaries for a team big enough to operate 30 aircraft, while the fleet was just 10 then. Quyet also expects profit from its direct U.S. flights. The airline is set to receive its first wide-body Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner this month, which will be used for direct flights to the U.S. in late 2020 or … [Read more...] about Bamboo Airways expects profits to take off in 2020

In 2018, the textile-garment sector posted year-on-year exports growth of more than 16 percent to surpass USD 36 billion, making Vietnam the world’s third biggest exporter of these products, after China and India. Insiders have recommended Vietnam pay attention to developing weaving and other production activities supporting the textile-garment sector. (Photo for illustration) Based on these figures, the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS) believes the export target of USD 40 billion for 2019 is achievable, thanks in part to FTAs, including the one with the EU – the second biggest market for Vietnamese textile and garment products. VITAS Chairman Vu Duc Giang said the EVFTA, signed in Hanoi on June 30, promises apparel export potential of more than USD 100 billion annually. Textiles and garments shipped to the EU are currently subject to export tariffs of 9.6 percent, but when the EVFTA takes effect, the rate will be gradually … [Read more...] about Apparel sector urged to develop supporting industry to optimize EVFTA
