More than 330 representatives from 32 cities in the world are gathering in Hue City to discuss the ways to protect and promote cultural heritages of historical cities. The discussion is under the 13 th World Conference of Historical Cities hosted by Hue City, Vietnam. This is the first time a city in Southeast Asia has hosted such event. During the two-day conference, themed “Defining Universal Heritage Challenges and Solutions”, participants exchanged and learn solutions in order to minimise negative impacts and balance community interests. “The Marine Cultural Heritage of Vietnam” exhibition to opened
An exhibition, "The Marine Cultural Heritage of Vietnam", will take place on May 18 th at the National Museum of History at 25 Tong Dan Street, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi, by the Museum, the National Border Committee, local museums and Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands Database Centre. The event is part of activities to mark the 122 nd birthday of President Ho Chi Minh and the International Museum Day on May 18 th. The exhibition will display documents related to marine heritages of Vietnam in three different periods, from prehistory to the 10 th Century, from the 11 th to 18 th Centuries and from the 19 th Century to the contemporary period. Ho Dynasty Citadel to receive title of ‘World Cultural Heritage Site’
The Royal Ho Dynasty Citadel in the central province of Thanh Hoa will receive the title of 'World Cultural Heritage Site' at a ceremony on May 16. Many cultural activities based on the Ho Dynasty will take place on May 15-16. The organising committee will also introduce to visitors tours of Lam Kinh and Cam Luong to discover ancient heritage sites in the relic area. The ceremony will be broadcast live on VTV1 channel. UNESCO had recognised the Ho Dynasty Citadel in the central province of Thanh Hoa as a World Cultural Heritage Site in an official announcement made at the 35th Session of the World Heritage Committee in Paris on June 27, 2011. The Ho Dynasty Citadel is located in the Vinh Tien and Vinh Long Communes of Vinh Loc District. It was once the capital of Vietnam from 1397 to 1407. Monitoring center established in Palace Museum to protect cultural heritage
The Palace Museum unveiled a monitoring center Monday that will coordinate the management of cultural heritage and provide a systematic database for the protection of the museum. The monitoring management includes formulating working rules, monitoring technical criterion, providing warning standards, making plans for cultural protection, and completing the monitoring network. Shan Jixiang, Director of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage (DSACH), said at the ceremony that the monitoring center was established under DSACH, and "special fees" had also been set up for the protection of world cultural heritage. "China is determined to improve the protection over cultural heritage and will set up a warning system for world cultural heritage during the next five years," Shan said. Hat Xoan on UNESCO’s waiting list for recognition as world cultural heritage
Hat Xoan (Xoan singing) is one of Vietnam's projects to be considered for recognition as the World's cultural intangible heritage at the sixth Conference of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee on the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage which will be held in Bali, Indonesia from November 22-29. This was announced by Cecile Duvelle, Chief of UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage Section at a press briefing held at Paris-based UNESCO headquarters on November 8. Mrs Duvelle said Vietnam is likely to succeed as its Xoan singing has met five categories set by the scientific consultancy agency even though the country's conditions to meet these categories are still modest. Xoan signing is one of 23 projects on the list of cultural heritage that needs urgent protection and preservation under the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
