Located at the foot of the majestic Hoàng Liên Sơn range, Mù Cang Chải terraced fields is a cultural heritage created by local ethnic minorities for generations. The 500ha of terraced fields, located in the communes of La Pán Tẩn, Chế Cu Nha and Dế Xu Phình in Mù Cang Chải District have been recognised as special national sites by Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc. The site was listed among national relics and distinguighsed landscapes by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2007. I don’t think that people outside the tourism industry completely understand how big the disruption is and how many people this affects. Vietnam has implemented strict measures to prevent and control the Covid-19 epidemic and is currently not receiving international tourists; therefore, foreign arrivals were mainly experts and technical workers engaged in projects. In the past five months, tourists from Asia accounted for 72.9% of the total number of arrivals, 51.4% lower than that from the same period last year. The number of European visitors in the period saw a yearly decrease of 35.7%. The total revenue from the tourism sector was estimated at VND8.3 trillion in the past five months, down 54.1%.
