(Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam’s finswiming pioneers are aiming to claim 6-8 out of the 13 gold medals on offer at the ongoing 31st Southeast Asia Games ( SEA Games 31 ). When the sport was introduced at the 2003 SEA Games, Vietnam as the host swept 13 out of the 16 golds at stake, while in Laos 2009 and Indonesia 2011 took four and six golds, respectively. Besides Thailand and the Philippines, Indonesia is growing stronger in the sport with many talented athletes, whose stats are on par with Vietnam’s top finswimmers in some categories. The men’s and women’s road cycling races attracted the participation of 43 athletes from eight countries, namely Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines. The No.1 seed was defeated in straight sets by her Thai opponent Anchisa Chanta in the semi-final held at the Hanaka Ocean Park tennis court complex in the northern province of Bac Ninh. On the day, Vietnamese pairs will play their Philippine rivals in the men’s doubles. Pham Minh Tuan and Trinh Linh Giang will face Ruben Gonzales and Treat Huey, while Le Quoc Khanh and Nguyen Van Phuong face Francis Casey Alcantara and Jenson Patrombon.
