(Photo: VNA) Khanh Hoa (VNS/VNA) - The lives of soldiers and islanders in Truong Sa island district in the south-central province of Khanh Hoa have changed a lot thanks to solar panels and wind turbines. Solar and wind power is used widely in islands belonging to Vietnam's Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago, said Colonel Le Dinh Hai, Deputy Head of Brigade 146 under Naval Region 4. Hai, who is also Chairman of the Truong Sa District People's Committee, said that the clean energy sources now could meet the daily needs of local residents for cooking, and powering TVs, radios and even electric fans at night. Australia facilitates environmental monitoring using tech in mangrove forest
The AQUAM project delivers mangrove environment monitoring stations in critical water points in Ca Mau province. The monitoring stations operate on solar energy. Data gathered by the stations in combination with satellite images will be the input of environmental reports for all stakeholders. The project, funded by Australia’s Aus4Innovation program, was wrapped up on Tuesday in a workshop attended by local provincial authorities and representatives from the Australian Embassy. The AQUAM project, jointly developed and implemented by the University of Queensland and Green Field Consulting & Development Company, in close collaboration with Nam Song Hau Fishery Research Sub-Institute and Ca Mau Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, has installed 15 wireless environmental monitoring stations using IoT (Internet of Things) technology to monitor the health of the mangrove ecosystem. Dang Van Thanh, chairman of TTC Group, has confirmed that Jera had bought a 35.09 per cent stake in Gia Lai Electricity JSC, a listed entity under TTC Group. Jera paid an unknown sum to International Finance Corporation (under the World Bank Group) and Armstrong Asset Management of Singapore for the majority ownership in Gia Lai Electricity, making it the biggest foreign shareholder in the firm, cited Bloomberg . Accordingly, TTC Group and its subsidiary Gia Lai Electricity plan to invest $1 billion to further boost its renewables capacity to more than 2,000 MWG.
