That statement was made by Dr. Tran Cong Truc, former head of the Government Border Committee. An international comprehensive legal document On April 30, 1982, the third U.N. Conference on the Law of the Sea passed a new convention named The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) 1982. On June 23, 1994, Vietnam was one of the first countries in the world to ratify the convention and became a member of UNCLOS. According to Dr. Tran Cong Truc, UNCLOS 1982 was built on the basis of “whole package,” including all aspects related to the law of the sea. This is a comprehensive international legal document that consists of all the most important legal contents and practices in reality concerning seas and oceans. Support proposed for fishermen struggling with petrol price hike

June 25, 2022 by dtinews.vn

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has proposed helping fishermen amid increasing petroleum prices. Many fishing boats in Vietnam are staying ahosre due to high petroleum prices MARD reported that petroleum prices have kept rising since December last year, which left up to 55 percent of fishing boats in Vietnam staying ashore. This has affected the seafood supply for the domestic and export markets. The country has 91,716 fishing vessels that consume an average of about 330 million litres of fuel per month. Diesel 0.05S, the main fuel for fishing vessels, has surged in price by 65 percent compared to late December last year. This means that fuel costs for fishing activities have increased by roughly VND3.77 (USD162.5 million) trillion each month. Fuel costs usually account for 45-60 percent of input costs for fishing vessels, which means an overall increase in operational costs of 35-48 percent. MARD has recommended assistance for … [Read more...] about Support proposed for fishermen struggling with petrol price hike

Produce processors receive major help

June 25, 2022 by ven.vn

Long An has huge potential for agricultural development, including development of produce for export. In recent years, the province has formed a number of commodity-oriented agricultural production areas. There are more than 200 agricultural product processing enterprises in the province, most of which provide preliminarily processed produce with low added value. Only a few foreign-invested enterprises are capable of intensive processing, and they mainly use imported materials. In 2022, the provincial industry promotion sector will continue to prioritize support for agricultural product processing enterprises Long An has acknowledged the need to develop produce processing and is mobilizing resources to that end. Through a key national industry promotion project, the Industry and Trade Promotion Center of Long An Province has provided practical assistance for agricultural product processors in the region. The HG Food Vietnam Joint Stock Company has invested in a new … [Read more...] about Produce processors receive major help

Part 3: Upholding VNLOS is upholding international law

June 26, 2022 by en.qdnd.vn

Reporter: The adoption of VNLOS could be considered the localization of the UNCLOS in Vietnam. Could you please  elaborate more about the policy and principles of Vietnam when applying the above two legal documents to the demarcation of waters and dealing with arising issues at sea in reality, sir? Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh: First, There are two basic legal documents that we rely on when exploiting resources, protecting and operating in Vietnamese waters. They are UNCLOS internationally and VNLOS domestically. At present, there are a lot of conventions, international laws or legal documents. They are not issued by any courts, but built based on the commitments of coastal and island states. Due to the characteristics of UNCLOS, each country needs to devise its own law of the sea, but basically all of those laws must comply with and be based on UNCLOS. Generally, international conventions or laws at large, not only on the sea, are loose to some extents, but first … [Read more...] about Part 3: Upholding VNLOS is upholding international law
